wquarton
Hey folks, looking to get feedback on a new one. Regina, Saskatchewan, was formerly known as Pile of Bones back around it's founding, due to scenes like this one While I realize this may not be the prettiest thing to acknowledge in a teams history, It is an essential part of the cities history, and I hope gives it kind of a wild wild west feel. The Queen of England later requested that the name be changed to Regina, which literally means the Reigning Queen. Hence the nickname of this club would be Queen of Bones. Anyways, heres what I have so far - as always appreciate your feedback
sportsherald
The official version of the history from the city: "Pile of Bones wasn’t a good name for a town. So in late 1882, it was given a “regal” name. It became “Regina” in honour of the reigning monarch, Queen Victoria. The Queen’s daughter, Princess Louise, suggested the name. She was the wife of the Marquis of Lorne, Canada’s governor general at the time. “Regina” is Latin for queen, making our present monarch Elizabeth Regina. That’s why Regina is often called the Queen City."Princess Louise Caroline Alberta herself, by the way, had Lake Louise and Alberta named after her.An early name for Regina's rugby team (forerunner of the Roughriders) was the Bonepilers.Regarding the logo, a bit clip-arty, I'm afraid. Both the R and the skull remind me of the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL.The bones that were piled there were mainly bison, so an "American" bison skull would be more suitable. Note how the eyes are set looking to the sides, not forward. Use the rules of heraldry for more effective sports logos! i.e. keep it simple, use good contrast... wquarton
Ah thanks. I heard it sort of vaguely, but wasn't 100% sure on the exact origins. Thanks for the heads up, the eyes seem like a fairly easy fix. Geuss I was going for a wild wild west sort of feel with the font, but I can definitely see what you're saying. Any suggestions otherwise on making it less "clip art-y"(the skull i mean)?

sportsherald
They're all better, but... maybe it's the squarish shield shape, but now this is reminding me of Alberta highway route markers. A challenge I see is to make the bison skull's eye sockets visible and recognisable, without altering the natural anatomy. I don't much like the Alberta Poundmaker Trail skull, for example, but your revision could be mistaken for a view of the back of the skull. I can take or leave the two tone background.Personally, I prefer Bonepilers as a name, over Queen of Bones, but it's your concept. It's just the nickname after all, the hypothetical fans would settle on what they prefered. I'll add a slight bit of the eye sockets to make it obvious that it's from the from, but thanks. That's an awfully specific thing to remind you of, so I'm not sure I mind. I kinda think its cool to be kinda like a highway route marker, but I guess I'm weird. Either way, getting to the point where I'm pretty happy with it. I'll probably try a few more things out and if any seem decent i'll post. Thanks for all the help man, you've been great.
