Having just watched the Astros and White Sox play a series this week (a re-match of the 2005 World Series), I have to say that I feel like the entire Astros uniform scheme is a complete fail.  I miss the early-to-late 2000s jerseys.  The uniforms, hats, and color scheme all look terrible compared to the design they had prior to it.  Sorry if this is beaten to death or if I'm on the wrong end of this argument.

I think you're on the wrong end of this one. They could certainly have done better, but the previous set was just wrong - a western theme for a team named the Astros? A combo western script and shooting star cap? Red and black alternats for a team that had been navy and orange for the overwhelming majority of its existence? It just didn't work.

So much else was wrong from that era too - the train, the hill, the flag pole, it's all absurd.

They were overly conservative with their escape from that train wreck, and I think that what they have now is a little dull, but at least they look like the Astros again - and look like a Major League Baseball team again

I disagree, I think this is their best look. I love everything about this jersey.

Hard to deny, that is a pretty sharp-looking jersey.  It's just that it's a scheme that doesn't fit the team and their history as well, not to mention that they fell into the same trap as the Brewers, using a slew of drab alts in a warehouse instead of their nice whites.

Because I feel like starting up an old dispute...

...the Brewers shouldn't use royal/yellow. They should use dark royal (like the Dodgers and Rangers use) and athletic gold (the yellow shade the A's and Pirates use). Here is a comparison on the BiG:

This keeps the classic colors, while adding more saturation to the shades.

Asthetically, I think you're right. It's more visually captivating. The flying star is an excellent logo and colors aren't bad for the region they're in.

But the team wanted their old colors back. The new star looks more like something you'd see on a sheriff's badge and isn't anywhere as strong as the old star. I'd like them to at the very least bring back the astro star in some form as an alternate logo. If that can be resolved, I can live with the new scheme better.

One thing I did like about the previous Astros set is that I really liked their alts outside of the red one they wore so frequently.

The black alt I thought was great and wish they kept them.

That pinstripe-free alt was a great balance for the red caps.

And that white alt with just the star on the left side was very distinct and unique.

Orioles are wearing their orange alts on the road right now... I think this is the first time they've worn them on the road this season.

It would be the second. They wore them against the Royals on 23 April.

On that subject, I'm not a fan of the orange on the road. Or to be more fair, orange at home looks a lot better with white pants and front panel.

They always go black on Friday and orange on Saturday.

At home, yes.

Orange wasn't worn on the road recently  until late in the 2014 season, and then it returned late in the 2015 season. This is the earliest jr has come out, and even then it wasn't for the first road game this season.

I wouldn't mind seeing it paired with last year's orange-panel BP cap on the road, maybe once or twice a season.. I really like their primaries and main alternate combinations (apart from the O's cap), but the VERY RARE creative mix-and-match is ok (like the time this season when they wore the new all black BP caps)

That would explain it.  They've had three away games on Saturday so far.  For the first one, the 16th of April, they wore their away grays against the Rangers red alts.  I don't know if they worried a bright warm color blend and just happen to be one of the smarter teams that think about that sort of thing instead of going red vs. red.

Looking at the photo galleries, though, I do agree that they don't matchup too well with the gray pants.  Although it doesn't help that one of the games was under the catwalk lights at the Trop and they come out a sickly yellowish.  The color of the pants effects the perception of the shade of orange.  It's just one of those optical illusion things that screw with the mind.  It looks the perfect shade with white, but brightens with gray and looks a slight bit off.

Wait...  Looking back, that first game was in KC.  What the heck was going on with the unis?  Are the lights at Kauffman just this off?

The Astros went from having my favorite set in baseball to my absolute least favorite set in any sport just about overnight. The open star was simple, yet conveyed so much. The current oddly beveled star with the H over it is my least favorite logo in any sport. I absolutely HATE that logo, and even moreso for what they scrapped to bring it back. Every single element of the Astros current set is a downgrade from either of their open star looks IMO.

Funny, I had the exact opposite reaction.   They went from being one of the worst-dressed teams in baseball, with an overly-fussy script, nonsensical colors and pointless alternates, to being one of the best.   Every single element, from the classic color scheme to the H-star cap logo was an enormous upgrade, and even the things I don't like (such as the too-simple block letters) are still worlds better than the over-designed mess they used to have.

That's a home game vs. the White Sox.  O's don't wear white panel hats on the road (and they didn't wear white panel hats in KC in April).

Personally, i love the new BP caps and wish that it would replace the O's cap on Friday.

I wouldn't mind your idea though.

If the Orioles want to go off the deep end, i would love to see them being back orange pants with the orange jersey

Psst.  That's to compare to the orange over the away grays.  The picture below those words is them in Kansas City.

If they're gonna go off the deep end with colored pants, I'd like to see them wear black pants with the orange.  I think that would look great.

Don't know if this is normal or not but I hadn't seen them in a retail store before (only online): walked into an Academy Sports in suburban Atlanta and they had tons of low crown 5950s. Diamond Era and normal poly. I've already got a number of DEs in low crown but finally scooped the normal Braves home cap in low crown. The usual high crown fit is awful for me but I've always been scared to buy the low crowns online.

Further investigation and it seems to be a reaction to the lights at Kauffman.  Maybe they're just cooler than elsewhere, or they're usually playing during the day on Saturdays and this was just a rare night game?  They didn't look like that under the evening sun earlier in the game.
