Sort of agree...it's just that the way baseball fields and stadiums open up in the outfield (more so than any other North American sport facility), the opportunity to have a scenic view as a bonus is hard to pass up.

Some baseball stadiums benefit from a nice skyline that incorporate unique features of the area, but from inside the stadium, most of these skylines are much less visible and much less significant.. I always viewed stadiums with huge outfield openings and large views of the skyline typically as your cheaper, smaller market stadiums.. That don't have the capacity necessary to fully enclose the stadium.. Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, Dodger Stadium, and some others offer a more enclosed feel that I prefer and find more "professional"..

Stadiums like AT&T Park and PNC Park (and even Oriole Park to some extent) have those semi-open outfields, but complete the stadium so uniquely with the backdrop/skyline that it creates a certain identity and character for the ballpark.. If you don't have unique features or a signature skyline to draw from, don't force it.. Go with something like Kaufmann Stadium, which creates a fully-enclosed stadium atmosphere by simply being creative and strategic with seating placement and concourse design, not to mention the "in-park" visual identifiers like that unique scoreboard and outfield seating..

Yankee Stadium is, more or less, based on the original, which was very much built enclosed, but Fenway isn't a particularly good example considering how they were forced to fit a stadium inside an awkwardly-shaped city block, and Dodger Stadium is wide open. Yes, they have stands in the outfield, but they don't enclose the field like you say.

It may not be as vertically impressive in the outfield as Yankee, but a packed house would still give a player the feel of being fully enclosed and surrounded on all sides by screaming fans, etc.. Keep in mind, most views of stadiums we can find online are aerial shots that distort the amount of skyline and imposing nature of outfield walls one might actually experience from inside the stadium.. I'll agree that it may not have been the strongest example, but even something like Minute Maid Park's outfield setup accomplishes the same goal regarding to "feel", even without the seating by incorporating the tall left field concourse wall and manual scoreboard.. I guess, as a former athlete, I always want to feel like I'm in A STADIUM, not just playing on a field with some bleachers.. There are definitely ways to get creative and be unique by creating "more" with less, and for teams who can't pack Yankee Stadium, that's what I'd prefer to some generic skyline

Rockies have it as well ? very disappointing.  Must also be annoying for the pitcher!

They're usually not walking during pitches...

I don't know about you, but you know I actually watch the game itself.  I'm sorry that everyone doesn't sit still behind home plate.

The original Yankee Stadium was intended to be enclosed:

The stands were never completed in the outfield, and Yankee Stadium was always left open.

The new one is a bit more enclosed by virtue of the advertising boards, but it's still open in that the upper decks don't go all the way around, revealing a view of the buildings outside:

I miss old Yankee Stadium

I sometimes go to Macombs Dam Park and walk on the grounds that the old Stadium stood on.  And I just get so sad realising that they took a wrecking ball and knocked down Yankee f-ing Stadium.  Criminal.

The original park lasted for 50 years.  The refurbished park lasted for 30 years.  So maybe the current one will last for ten years.

It's mindless decadence, and an appalling waste.

I'm not sure if all-star game uniforms have been discussed yet, but an interesting find on Fanatics. Appears to be this year's all-star game caps

2016 Looks

This was covered back in mid April.  All of the MLB ASG hats including the Home Run Derby caps are here as well.

I'm sorry, but that place was an absolute toilet by the time it was replaced. It was the dirtiest, smelliest, and easily most underwhelming stadium I had ever been to. The new park, on the other hand, is absolutely gorgeous. It's such a fitting replacement that is grandiose yet still gives such a respectful nod to the previous park in its heyday. I understand that Yankee Stadium had appeal in its history, and I'm sure in its heyday it was a great place to see a game. The problem though is that it was WELL past its heyday by probably a half century by the time they moved on from it.

I'm at Petco Park and in the team store, there was a rack of Stance socks. Took pictures of them just in case they were leaks. Take a look.

Per the mothership, the D-Backs seem to say more dark gray unis are on the way.

Let's speculate who could adopt them, with their current identities or a slight mod.

- Marlins

- Rays (with a focus on light blue)

- Mariners

- Rockies (with a potential redesign)

I love socks, I love stripes, I hope that MLB will get back to a single socks striping pattern for each team but these are ugly as :censored:.

These are just casual fan socks that Stance has been making for atleast the last couple of years. They have nothing to do with the on field socks that they will be unveiling.

I miss (in a weird way) the ungodly distance between home plate and the backstop at old Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees website says it's only 72'4" vs. 52'4" now, but that doesn't seem accurate at all.

i can see only about 1/4 of those being similar to what will be worn on the field, but even then they would need to be much longer, these socks would end before mid calf, MLB socks would need to go to just below the knee, almost like tube socks

Hope I'm wrong, but pirates maybe? I was doing some work and met with a person who said they are contemplating new uniforms for next year or the following. The person who told me this is a higher up and seems legit. (She even let me see some of the beloved style guide). I'm not starting any rumors, just passing along a tidbit of info that could come into play in the future. I take it with a grain of salt since I'm in no way shape or form "in the know" or claim to be. Wonder if dark gray will be this generations powder blue roads. I personally think they are hard to read and prefer regular gray.

So I went to the phillies game today....

they played the diamondbacks......who had dark grey uniforms with light blue numbers.

It looked utterly awful, dark gray and light blue just blend too much. Had fun trying to see what the numbers and names were.
