WSU151
I'm pretty sure someone on the Padres staff thought "For the All-Star Game, we'll be home but away" and people just worked off that premise. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
mjd77
IMO, The Padres still looked horrible. Everyone else had the regular road jersey with team name or city name across the front, then San Diego has to come along and wear the monogram. Looked stupid alongside everyone else. They almost looked like those gas station team knock-off caps you buy at a Flying-J in Idaho or Utah. At least that was the impression I got when watching the game. The only thing missing is the Velcro strap in the back. I think this whole special caps/AKA more merch to sell thing's gotta stop. It's gone too far when, say, Andrew Miller looks classy Yankee pinstripes from the neck down and I-bought-this-cap-with-my-hot-dog-combo-a-mountain-dew-and-a-BIC-lighter-all-for-$11.25 from the neck up. First of all: Couldn't have said it better myself. Second of all: Not only does the special caps/uniform template thing in MLB need to stop, it needs to stop across all of the Big 4 in general. There are exceptions, though too many pieces of team identity are sacrificed in the name of league-mandated special event jerseys (NBA's Xmas, particularly 2012's solid-color, 2013's sleeved-with-a-silver-colored-logo-on-front, and 2014's first-name-on-a-contrasting-nameplate-below the-number-with-a-logo-on-front jerseys), hats (MLB All-Star Game), and overall uniforms (NFL's Color Rush™ and last year's NHL Stadium Series). The Red Sox don't look like the Red Sox when the B on their navy hat isn't red (or vice versa on their 1970s red throwback hats). I know it won't happen, because merchandise=money, but it would sure be nice if this stuff was toned back significantly. Silent Wind of Doom
Going back to watch the game one last time before deleting it. I didn't notice until now the plastic sheen on the patches. They look like stickers.

It's an unfortunate part of this day and age, and I think it too often gets sugar-coated to taste like "kewl new merch, kidz!" or worse, in some cases, "for a good cause" when in reality it's just the highest professional leagues of sports minor leagueing themselves for a few more bucks. I seriously could do without the new merch to choose from and would be fine with - nay, ecstatic with - simple patches on regular uniforms instead. 4th of July or Memorial Day? Flag patch. Christmas? Snowflake patch. All-Star Game? Patch. Color Rush? No more! Problems solved, honors given, big events commemorated.
krunyan
You can make more merchandise. Just don't have the teams wear it. If it's hot, it will still sell regardless.

They changed their home jerseys well after they had the game awarded to them. It's just another example of how completely disorganized that organization is. masterchaoss
So the Angels are wearing their 70s throwback tonight and someone thought it was a good idea to just put the classic big A logo on a red helmet instead of having them just wear the navy and red one, it looks even more invisible on the helmet the modern logo ever has. Ugh. That's rough, especially given the team actually went the extra length of going with pullovers.

Better than the home whites I kinda liked these. The contrast with the gray worked for me, but i still wish this organization would put an end to the ever spinning color wheel. Athletic gold and brown is the clear winner, now commit to it please.

Typical of the Angels, completely half-*****. They proved during their 50th anniversary that they could do it right, and yet for years, they've done it cheaply and horribly. It's like an owner who buys a team and then just gives up after a few years... oh wait, that's Arte Moreno.

Silent Wind of Doom
On a side note, there was a very conspicuous absence from the Home Run Derby. No WWE Championship belt was awarded to the winner. Anyone know the story behind why it's missing?

Adam Jones has his own replica belt because he's a wrestling fan but the WWE themselves did send belts the last two derbys I clearly remember both Cespedes and Frazier holding belts after their wins. WWE sends replicas of their belts to several sports teams and/or players after they've won something big but yea no clue why it didn't happen this year.
