ConcreteCharlie
I agree.. I also think it's a good rule of thumb for two-color caps to have the darker color on the crown, lighter color logo/bill.. Not a definitive thing, but generally a better look imo.. Something about the inverse giants hat looks empty or inside-it or somethingExcept for red/navy, I agree. Twins, Red Sox, Angels, and nats have all pulled it off perfectlyI also think this is an exception

The only reason it's a serviceable option for the nationals is because they ditched the all-navy cap, otherwise, it would be their 3rd best option imo

Old School Fool
I'm glad the Twins are bringing back red as an alternate. I would love it when I played as the Twins in Ken Griffey Jr. on N64 and they would wear it.

Twins, Red Sox, Angels, and nats have all pulled it off perfectly I also think this is an exceptionI agree both with the rule of thumb that the cap's crown should be the darker colour, and with the idea that that Reds cap is an exception.Another exception is the Pirates' early-1970s cap, the one which they had been wearing in recent years as a throwback.By contrast, the Padres' 1971 cap illustrates the fact that most caps look bad with the lighter colour on the crown.Orange as a primary works well for the Orioles, but the Giants should be a black team with touch of orange, not the other way around.True when talking about the cap. But but let us remember how great the Giants looked in the period when their lettering was orange-on-black instead of black-on-orange.
FiddySicks
I know it may seem weird, but I would love to see the Giants introduce a orange crown/black bill, logo, button cap. Their California League team in San Jose has a cap like that. I think you can get a fashion 39thirty like that. Found one. As I said, it'd be nice to see this worn on the field in some capacity.I have a feeling that the Giants new BP cap will look very similar to this. No particular reason I feel that way, just a hunch. SilverBullet1929
That Giants cap isn't bad, it's just not what any of us are used to for the Giants. As someone said, they should try that out as a BP cap first as a test run. Also, it reminds me of the Netherlands WBC cap, not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though.Someone posted that purple crown Rockies BP cap... I love that! Embrace the purple Rockies! Do it!And I'm super curious by the Twins getting a red jersey. To me they're a "navy with red team"... not a "red team" so I'm intrigued.
TheOldRoman
There needs to be no new orange caps or orange jerseys introduced for a good, long time. We've already stomped that mudhole dry. The Orioles are an orange/black team. The Giants are a black/orange team. The Giants should get rid of their orange jerseys and orange brimmed caps. They maintain the classic, '50s look now (with exception of them messing up the road jerseys) and it looks just as good as it did in New York. They can wear black alternates if they want - preferably with orange numbers instead of black - but they should leave wearing orange to the Orioles, Astros, and Marlins kinda (although they should be wearing teal). Great color for them...yet it's used minimally. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
SilverBullet1929
How is orange a mudhole that's been stomped dry? I believe just five teams use it. You could argue that not one of them uses it as their primary color consistently. If anything, some teams should embrace it more. I can think of a long list of colors/schemes that have been "stomped dry" and orange would be nowhere on the list.
TheOldRoman
Well, the Orioles have always used orange as the primary (except for caps). A few years back, the Giants introduced orange jerseys and orange-billed caps, stepping on the Orioles' toes (although they didn't have an orange jersey at the time). The Giants should have never worn orange stuff to begin with because they were a black primary team. Anyway, then the Marlins changed to the current set and added orange jerseys and caps. Then the Astros returned to their rightful colors and added orange jerseys and caps. Then the Mets came out with an awful orange-brimmed alternate cap. We went from 4 orange teams (DET, NYM, SF, BAL with only the Orioles using orange in large amounts), to 6 orange teams with all but the Tigers using it in a substantial way. And I'm sure the Mets will come out with an orange jersey next year because they've been motivated to re-bastardize their uniforms after getting them right again.Anyway, orange is not red, black, or blue. Orange is a very distinctive, rather obnoxious color. And I say this as someone who wore orange at college (Illinois) and has a pro team using orange (the Bears). I love orange in many applications, but It's not everybody's cup of tea, and teams using it are taking a risk of sorts. It's more of a niche color. Everybody wears red. Not everybody should, but we've grudgingly accepted that MLB is oversaturated in red. But whatever, because a lot of those teams are old and it's partly societal with that color appearing on our flag. We can deal with 11 teams in red (12 counting Arizona), but we shouldn't have as many teams in orange. It would be like having half a dozen teams in teal. It's best used sparingly. A red cap might not stand out as much, but and orange cap is WHOA!I'd be perfectly happy with the Astros using orange caps and batting helmets for all games. The Orioles can wear orange jerseys and even experiment with caps because they've owned that color. But the Giants are an old, historic franchise that dresses like it for roughly half their games. They need to use orange how they used it for their existence outside of the last few years and the gaudy '70s, as a trim color. The Giants and Mets should use orange just how the Tigers use it on the road.
