The Rays aren't changing...no last minute rebrand will take place.

I'm pretty sure the next big unveil will be the new BP hats, which Bucfan56 has alluded to here.

I hate to be "that guy," but a good friend of mine works for the team and told me the other day that their Sunday Columbia blue jerseys will have the sun burst on the left side of the chest instead of "Rays" across the whole chest. He saw the jersey last season in the clubhouse and said it was otherwise the same, but was told it was hush-hush. I don't know when they'll unveil them if that's true, but there's always Fan Fest.

If I'm not mistaken, that would be the only MLB jersey without any lettering on the front of the jersey.  It could work as long as there's a navy outline around the sun burst.

I hope not. Hyperbole aside, that sunburst logo they have is probably the worst logo in any sport ever in the history of the universe.

I mean, really, what the hell is this thing? It reminds me of birdcrap or a bug hitting the windshield of a car or something.

Why is it so hard for the Rays to come up with an even halfway decent logo package? It was such an easy mascot to work with! Sting Rays, you idiots. STING Rays! That's cool as hell and about as Florida as it comes. And they had to F it up with the Devil Rays name. And muck it up even worse by going the EXACT opposite route and call it Rays of sunshine casting down upon the bay area from the heavens above.

This team is really dumb.

Anyone know when the twins are gonna unveil their new alternate?

I think it's been said here a few times that it'll be unveiled at Twins Fest.

Interesting...thanks for the info.

I think it was actually a class project where they had pre-schoolers try and draw the mariners compass logo.

I completely agree at the idiocy of the old manta ray logos going away. Congrats, Rays, you took a completely unique logo identity in all of pro sports and replaced it with Nike-level hyperbole. Was it not possible they could have kept the manta ray logos and identity while also expanding upon "Rays" to mean rays of sunshine?

They did keep ray logos while saying it meant rays of sunshine. I don't think having a name mean two things is good branding. The Bears can't represent big animals that roam forests and hairy gay guys. They have to pick.

And they should have kept the logos around. I think it was around 2010 or so they got rid of them, was it not? I agree with some of the others here that the sunburst just isn't a very strong logo to build your identity around. I think they moved away from the manta ray banding solely because they had nothing but losing seasons while they were the "Devil Rays." Shame, really, they even had a fairly unique looking identity as the Devil Rays. They are just more generic all-around as the Rays.

That would have been fine if they left the manta ray logo on the sleeve. They dropped it after a few seasons.

The manta ray logo is still on the sleeve, at least on the home jersey.

Road jersey, too.

I just want a Rays away jersey that has Tampa Bay on the front. I don't care about what else they do. I'm just sick of only seeing Rays on the front.

With the current font they use, I think it would be too difficult to fit "Tampa Bay" across the chest. I might need to see it first, but it's hard for me to picture it working.
