Wordmark2015_Event.png

Los Angeles wants an NFL team badly, and is ready to do anything to get one. Prospective owners want to show the league their identity package, and have asked you to provide a wordmark for their team. For this event, you need to create a wordmark for a football team based in Los Angeles, CA. You can choose any team name you want. The only thing they are restricting is the color palette for your wordmark. You have to choose one of the following palettes:

Guidelines2015_Wordmark.png
  • You must pick one of the color palettes provided above. You can use as many colors as you like within the color palette you selected, all the way up to the five colors in the palette.
  • The wordmark must include the name of the city, in this case Los Angeles, and the team name.
  • You must submit the wordmark on two separate backgrounds: one white background and one colored background using a color from the color palette; do NOT submit logos or uniforms.
  • Do not write any justification for the city or colors.
DEADLINE: October 26th, 11:59AM Eastern Time

Reminder - Read this carefully as I won't give out warnings this time!

Failure to follow the guidelines could result in your entry being inadvertently (or intentionally) excluded from judging.

Entries must be emailed to logolympiad (@) gmail (dot) com prior to the set deadline. Subject line should be the event number (Ex: Event 1). Once you submit your entry, it is considered final.

Entries must be submitted as .jpg, .gif or .png formats. The file name format of the submission is: event#_yourusername.extension (Ex: event1_pollux.png). The file must be attached to your email.

All final entries must be 800x600 pixels with at least 70 pixels of white space at the bottom of the image. This means that your presentation has to fit in a 800x530 pixels window (800 pixels wide by 530 pixels high). I will NOT re-size entries that are not properly done, so make sure it's right.

The background of the entries should be solid white, unless otherwise specified. You must not use gradients, shadows, patterns, lines, etc. on your background.

Do not add any text or images to your submission, unless otherwise specified. Do not add the team name, location, the entry number, the event type, etc.

Do not include your name or any other personal identifiers on your submission. Also, do not watermark your work. I will add a watermark to each entry before they get posted for judging. I will also provide each entry with a number. You are expected to keep the identity of your entry anonymous until the end of the event. If you think you know the identity of another designer, keep it to yourself. Anyone who exposes the identity of themselves or anyone else will be DQ'd.

I will NOT contact you if your entry is wrong, therefore make sure that you comply to these guidelines before submitting your entry.

So can we put the team name on the wordmark or just the city. If it is just the city, it seems that the submissions would be very similar.

Put both. The guideline mentions that you should put the city name, but you also need to have the team name on there. I don't want anyone submitting only the team name. I clarified the initial post.

What if you have a logo coming from behind the wordmark

General rule of thumb: the wordmark should take most of the space. If the logo is too big, then it's not a wordmark.

I leave it up to your creativity to add some stuff in or around the wordmark, but the main focus here is the wordmark.

Can we use the abbreviation "LA" instead of the city name "Los Angeles?"

No. Use the full name for the city.

Can we use white in the wordmark, or are we limited strictly to the colors in the palette?

Do NOT use white. Stick with the colors from one of the palettes above.

Do you want us to submit the wordmark on both backgrounds as one file named event#_yourusername.extension or as two files with the same name or as two files with different names?

Both wordmarks should be on only one file. Always one file, regardless of the amount of items required.

So does that mean this final entry will still be 800x600 or will it be 1600x600 or 800x1200?

Your final entry should have both wordmarks on it, and fit on the 800x600 area with the required 70 pixels of blank space at the bottom.

Perfect answer.

Always submit only one file, 800x600 with the 70px of blank space at the bottom. If I asked for 15 jerseys (not that I ever would), you'd have to find a way to put them all on the same file.

Very interesting choice. Isn't white the one color on every NFL logo, wordmark, and uniform? Challenge accepted!

Alrighty then, let's do this. =)

I understand that you want both the city and the team name included, but what should be the focal point of the wordmark: Los Angeles, or the team name?

Ideally, the team name, but I will not disqualify anyone if the focus is on Los Angeles.
