CompanyLogo2015_Event.png

This event is related to one of my favorites TV shows recently, Breaking Bad. You need to design a company logo for Gray Matter Technologies, co-founded by Walter White and Elliott Schwartz.
  • The full name of the company (Gray Matter Technologies) must appear on the logo.
  • You will have to provide two instances of the logo: a colored version, and a black and white version (not grayscale). Both versions have to be provided on a white background.
  • Put both instances on the same image when submitting.
DEADLINE: November 9th, 11:59AM Eastern Time

Reminder - Read this carefully as I won't give out warnings this time!

Failure to follow the guidelines could result in your entry being inadvertently (or intentionally) excluded from judging.

Entries must be emailed to logolympiad (@) gmail (dot) com prior to the set deadline. Subject line should be the event number (Ex: Event 1). Once you submit your entry, it is considered final.

Entries must be submitted as .jpg, .gif or .png formats. The file name format of the submission is: event#_yourusername.extension (Ex: event1_pollux.png). The file must be attached to your email.

All final entries must be 800x600 pixels with at least 70 pixels of white space at the bottom of the image. This means that your presentation has to fit in a 800x530 pixels window (800 pixels wide by 530 pixels high). I will NOT re-size entries that are not properly done, so make sure it's right.

The background of the entries should be solid white, unless otherwise specified. You must not use gradients, shadows, patterns, lines, etc. on your background.

Do not add any text or images to your submission, unless otherwise specified. Do not add the team name, location, the entry number, the event type, etc.

Do not include your name or any other personal identifiers on your submission. Also, do not watermark your work. I will add a watermark to each entry before they get posted for judging. I will also provide each entry with a number. You are expected to keep the identity of your entry anonymous until the end of the event. If you think you know the identity of another designer, keep it to yourself. Anyone who exposes the identity of themselves or anyone else will be DQ'd.

I will NOT contact you if your entry is wrong, therefore make sure that you comply to these guidelines before submitting your entry.

I have a question about the spelling. We can call it "Gray" Matter Technologies if that's what you want, but that word is spelled differently based on the version on English. In British English it's spelled with an 'a', but in American English it's spelled "grey". I assumed that since the show takes place in New Mexico (I think that's also where Grey Matter Technologies is located) that the spelling would be the American English version with an 'e'.

What sort of industry is Gray/Grey Matter Technologies? Health Science and Medical? Chemical Sciences?

COuld we use other logos from companys. Say a collage. Also Is raster ok?

Did you just ask if you could blatantly mash other pre-existing logos together for an entry in a design contest? Use your head.

In British English we usually spell it 'grey', American English most commonly as 'gray'. As the company in question is from a US TV show set in that country, I would assume that 'Gray Matter Technologies' is the correct spelling to be used in these concepts.

Do NOT use other logos. Do NOT make a collage. All artwork must be your own. Clearly you haven't been paying attention.

Yes, raster is OK. Again, you haven't been paying attention to the entries you voted on.

The first episode in which Gray Matter Technologies is mentioned is called Gray Matter. Regardless of how it's spelt in the US or in Great Britain, use the spelling provided in the original posting, therefore Gray Matter Technologies, with an a.

It's rather broad, but I think if you stay within science in general, you should be OK. The show didn't really detail the work that was done by the company, so I wouldn't disqualify anyone on that basis.

Walt mentions that the company has made money off of his research, so it is safe to assume chemical sciences, but it may not be limited to that particular field anymore.

Would it be acceptable to use a thin white stroke/keyline just for the B&W version or does the B&W version have to be a strict recolor?

You can use a thin white stroke/keyline.

The idea of the black and white version is to show what it would look like if it was printed on a paper with only black ink. Therefore it's likely that only a recolor wouldn't look as good as using different strokes.

Does it matter how the logos are arranged as long as it fits in the designated size?

It doesn't matter. You are responsible of laying out the required elements on your submission. As long as everything fits on your submission, you're good to go.

Instead of saying "technologies" on the logo, could I say "tech" instead?

No. Use the full word.
