SFGiants58
I'm pretty sure the Giants are not winning it all in 2016. This could be my standard "underestimate my team, so I'm pleasantly surprised when they do well" tactic that has carried me to success before, but it is probably because I do not see any real hope that they'll get the Number 2 starter and OF bat/2B backup they need. When I consider the best pitchers on the market, Zimmerman probably isn't the best choice, Grienke is too expensive/probably wouldn't want to come to SF anyway, and Price is a playoff liability. While the young bench will have more experience, they still can't truly replace Panik or Pence if either one of them is injured. There is a lot to do in the offseason, and I'm not sure the Giants have the depth to trade for who they need. Of course, I could be wrong and the team could execute all the right moves again, but I don't see it happening. Also, it's stupid that the Nationals are going to try and trade Bud Black for Dusty Baker. I always liked Bud Black from his San Diego days, and I thought he was a decent manager who was saddled with generally subpar rosters. Picking up Dusty would slam their title window shut and send Bryce packing once free agency rolled around. Crabcake
It honestly amazes me how brainless GMs can be sometimes. Even George Costanza would know not to hire Dusty Baker. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2LCggmsCXk4And let's hear it for post 700!

CS85
I admire the way the Nationals have gone about pulling a Dave McGinnis with Bud Black. It's a great sign that this organization is ready to win, and win never. Quote "You are nothing more than a small cancer on this message board. pmoehrin
I could see why Black turned down the offer. A one year deal is basically guaranteeing you'll be fired if the team isn't contending for a division title out of the gate. The one question I have is was there anyone the Nationals interviewed who they really liked? Because you get the sense that no matter who the Nationals hired they were getting the same deal as Dusty got. If you offer the same flat rate deal to multiple people, it tells me you really don't care who you hire because you really don't find much value in any of them.As far as Dusty Baker goes, my fear with him is his age and health. He's 66 and in his last two years in Cincy it was a struggle for him to get through the season. Just for that alone he's not someone I would have on my radar as a potential hire. Those issues aside though he's a guy that's won 90+ games eight times in his career with three different teams. For all the criticism he gets for not abiding by basic Sabermetric principles, how bad of a manager can he possibly be? An argument could be made that he's the greatest manager over the past 100 years to never win a World Series ring. The only one I would put above him on that list is Al Lopez. Sport
Oh man. I completely forgot he missed time in 2012. He wasn't with the team when they clinched the division IIRC. There's something to him being a good regular season manager. His players will play for him for 162 games. His postseason problem has always been that he manages the postseason like it's the regular season. I can't really speak for the Giants or the Cubs, but with the Reds Bruce Bochy managed circles around him in the 2012 NLDS.
FiddySicks
From reading all of the articles on the different Nationals websites, it sounds like the initial offer the Nats made was to Baker, who essentially laughed at their terms. They then went to Black and the offer was so insultingly low (1year, $1.5 million) that talks pretty much ended immediately. They then returned to Baker, who kinda reluctantly took the deal when he realized it was going to be the only offer he had this off season. He's going to be making less than half of what he did with the Reds. Yikes.Sounds like the Lerners have been spending too much time (AKA: any time at all) with Dan Snyder and Jed York.
