Then I sat back, watched some football and watched the cash roll in. I am going to keep on playing because there is no way I can lose! Unfortunately, the majority of the people who do this are dummies like me who know very little about it. The truth is, this is gambling just like anything else. This is the same as gambling as NFL games, except it's just on individual players. I'm glad New York chose to classify it as gambling. Good riddance. Oh yeah, and I hate those ads too. NJTank
This only effects New York for now and will result in lawsuits. I think in the end with New Jersey trying to legalize sports gaming it all will be legal soon. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
vmd9
Not sure I understand why it would be illegal? Anyone over 18 in the US can play the lottery, bet on horses, play slots or any other game at a casino. Bets and winnings are taxed. As long as they keep the athletes and coaches from doing it, who cares?
CubsFanBudMan
Posted this in the NFL anti-thread a month ago. It was all I really needed to know about daily fantasy:"You Aren't Good Enough to Win Money Playing Daily Fantasy Football"The top 100 ranked players enter 330 winning lineups per day, and the top 10 players combine to win an average of 873 times daily. The remaining field of approximately 20,000 players tracked by Rotogrinders wins just 13 times per day, on average.Bloomberg, via Deadspinhttp://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-09-10/you-aren-t-good-enough-to-win-money-playing-daily-fantasy-football

As long as they keep the athletes and coaches from doing it, who cares?Lotteries are games of pure chance, and are only legal in 44 states (plus DC, PR, and USVI).Horse racing (not games of pure chance) and casino gambling (chance varies by game) is also permitted on a state-by-state (and, increasingly, reservation by reservation) basis.FanDuel and Draft Kings are forms of online gambling and are not games of pure chance. I'm not an expert on the legality of online gambling, but it is obviously much more heavily regulated.I'm not going to inject my opinion as to whether or not online gambling (whether it be FanKings or online poker or whatever) should be legal, I'm just saying "but lotteries are legal!" is an apples-to-oranges comparison, if not a straw man argument. Anyone over 18 in the US can play the lottery, bet on horses, play slots or any other game at a casino. Bets and winnings are taxed. As long as they keep the athletes and coaches from doing it, who cares? betting on humans is completely different than the lottery or casino games. Humans can "tank", or throw a game/match, or be impacted by other factors that have nothing to do with chance. Horses is a gray area, and I'm pretty sure that if horse betting hadn't been a thing forever and was just getting started now, it wouldn't be allowed either. I also think boxing betting shouldn't be allowed. In these "games", you're really playing against nerds who use formulas to build ideal lineups and may or may not even know anything about the games. That, and the fact that the "secret" to winning is essentially hackable data, makes these things a bad thing to be so easily available to people. I don't think 'tanking' would even be possible in fantasy sports.

I don't think 'tanking' would even be possible in fantasy sports. It absolutely is! Theoretically (not that this would happen considering how much athletes are paid), a big time fantasy owner could pay his opponent's QB to tank so that he wins the fantasy championship. I know it's far fetched, but any time you're betting on a human's performance, there's a chance that it's not always a fair playing field and that a lot of people are unknowingly being duped in to throwing away their money.
