Wildlife Protection Organization Logo

Hey people,

My dad is beginning a new job as the head of the Horn of Africa Wildlife Enforcement Network (HAWEN), which is an NGO that is being created by a coalition of national governments in the region in order to protect wildlife/prevent poaching etc. Since it is a new organization, they don't currently have a logo, so my dad has asked me to design it (yay nepotism!). The image below is what I've got so far, and I think it would be great to get some constructive criticism, so if you have any suggestions please post them!

I actually intended the white space to be the shape of a part of Africa: specifically the horn of Africa region where the organization will operate (here's an image of the region: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2775/5853597469_dcdb4d9b7f.jpg ) I didn't include the entire continent because HAWEN is only based in a certain region

i think your concept is fairly strong. there is some adjusting to the hierarchy that needs to be done with the icon. meaning, the logo is mostly a circle with a small rhino in the corner. adjust it so the rhino is more prominent.

blue and green is fine, but the specific color swatches do not balance well. each is so saturated and close in value, they begin to vibrate and appear cheap. actually, they're the same value as you can see below:

if can, you want to use Pantone colors. just throwing something out there, i think this palette suits the logo well. there is a better contrast in the colors and they pair well with each other.

last note, the kerning (space between letters) on HAVEN is way off. tighten up the space a bit between the E and N. and tighten it up a lot between the A and W.

This is pretty good so far, but I think it would work much better if you swapped the colors. Right now you have blue where land would be, and green where water would be. The Horn of Africa would be much more obvious if the surrounding color were blue.

I also echo what BrandMoore said
