2016 MLS Jerseys

I gotta say, I'm a little surprised by all of the critiques about the negative space in the crest. One of the common themes that make bad logos bad (at least in my mind) is the propensity to jam things together and not allowing for any breathing room.

This mark checks a lot of the boxes to be a timeless classic. It's simultaneously simple and evocative, it picks one hook (Art Deco in this case) and does it well, and it's an extremely flexible mark.

Everyone obviously gets to have an opinion, and I suppose you can't please everyone, but some of the criticism here has me really scratching my head.

Fair points for sure. This mark definitely nails the art deco look without beating it into the ground.

I think one reason this negative space is seen as...uh...negative is because the "Los Angeles Football Club" type is so small compared to the LA monogram. I wonder what this set-up would look like:

LA

Football

Club

That would help "fill out" the bottom of the shield take out the redundancy of having Los Angeles in there as well.

I'm not a fan of gold material for uniforms. For stripes, numerals, etc. great, but for the actual jersey, pants or socks, I've never seen a kit I've liked. Probably the closest I've liked is Arsenal but I think it only works since they have the blue shoulder and sleeves. That being said, it's not a favorite of mine.

I don't know why, but I'm hoping LAFC's primary uniform is black jersey/gold shorts/black socks

Actually, I'm picturing black/black/gold, though I don't think you can really get a metallic gold color for socks.

Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop!

I'm with you on this. In my opinion it's the best crest in MLS. It's simple, iconic, and draws on the city's history and name. What more could you ask for?

So, what's the full list of new uniforms (if we know yet)?

New primaries: Chicago, Colorado, New England, Dallas, LA, Philadelphia, Montreal, salt lake, Seattle.

New change kits: Columbus, New York City, Houston, Portland, RB, Orlando, San Jose, KC, Toronto, Vancouver.

New third kits: Seattle.

Why are people so eager to anoint a nickname for LAFC? Maybe they'll have one a la Orlando or Minnesota, maybe they won't like DCU or NYCFC.

I really want NYCFC to embrace the whole "Third Rail" thing. The logo is awesome.

Use it like this: "NYCFC played Philadelphia yesterday. The Third Rail beat the Union 2-1"

Sorry, that name's taken. ;)

Right. Referring to the team itself as "the Third Rail" would be like referring to the Cleveland Browns as "the Dawg Pound".

But Dawg Pound refers to the fans, not the team. Like how Manchester United fans are the Red Army.

Exactly. "The Third Rail" is the name of the largest NYCFC supporters' group.
If we're gonna go this route, (Orlando) City would be referred to as either The Ruckus or the Iron Lion Firm, the two biggest supporter sections.

PHI ALPHA! SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON. CAROLINA GAMECOCKS. ST. LOUIS CARDINALS. ST. LOUIS BLUES. ORLANDO CITY SC. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS.

Isn't NYCFC the Blues?
