Help with Knight Logo

Ragone

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I am back again with another practice logo. This time, I'm attacking a Knight logo. Right now I have the basic shape as you can see, I just want some feedback on the current shape and design before I keep on continuing with the logo. I also want to add highlights to the logo to give it a bolder look, but am awful at that stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It looks pretty good. I do feel like it needs harder angles and lines. The idea of a knight is hard and punishing and the soft curves make it seem soft and wavy.

(PS: Did you ditch the boar?)

I do agree with you on this totally. I made it so the center blue area was the cloak and tried adding highlights to the knight to give it more life. Still not sold on the whole design. Actually I didn't ditch the boar, I did a few more tweaks to it, just forgot to upload it. I blame this on my concussion haha :D.

The bottom blue triangle section feels empty, especially compared to the level of detail in the top half of the logo.

Also, the space between his shoulder flares and cheeks is such a tiny gap with the thick keyline. In some media, this detail will be lost so you might try reshaping that area or maybe just eliminating the gap.

I think this is really coming along. I agree that the bottom blue area is a little empty. Maybe a chest plate?

The other thing you might want to consider is the plume (I think that's what it's called) on top of the helmet. I think this could be more of a custom feather like shape to give it some dimension.

Great progress!

Definitely better with the highlights.. I still think some harder angles would help.. Especially around the jaw line

Thanks. I agree with you on this, will try to make some harder angles.

Improving by leaps and bounds. Your watermark is pretty heavy, though.

Thanks, now that I'm looking I see that the watermark is pretty heavy haha. My bad on that :D.

I see what your saying about the blue area. That's why I posted the update with the chest plate. I was thinking that as well, it's bugging me more and more now that I'm looking at it.

Thank you! I tried adding a plume, but honestly just gave up because anything I did looked horrendous haha.

These are absolutely incredible..each design is good and sleek.

Thank you very much!

Good basic design, which could be built upon depending on the specifics of the team's home. Here are my thoughts, for your consideration:

The layout currently provides the pointed bottom of a traditional knight's shield- the more rectangular top could be filled out by the team's or city's initials, a plain coloured backdrop, or yes, a plume/mantling,

This design looks better to me with a contrast between the armoured shoulders of the knight and a cloth-covered torso. In the days of real armoured knights, they often did wear a sleeveless cloth surcoat over the armour just like that, bearing his symbols- the origin of the term "coat of arms." So, in this case, a symbol from the city's arms (or seal, in the US) could be placed on this surcoat.

Use the rules of heraldry for more effective sports logos! i.e. keep it simple, use good contrast...

That strong watermark makes me want to spend 30 seconds in Photoshop to remove it just because ;)

I love the version with the chest plate... I might reduce the bust size, which would solve some of the dead space issue and make the head (the focal point) the largest part of the logo

Haha. I may give this a go, I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for all of the information! I actually had that idea in mind if I was doing it for a specific team.

Another update for you guys. I decided to try out putting a cape on the knight. I'm not sure if I like it or not as it almost looks like a scarf. I feel it would look much better if I was doing a full knight and you could actually see the cape but I figure I'd give it a shot. Anyways, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I'm really liking the progress you've made on this. I still think the points on the edges of the armor could be a bit more defined, and the feather on his helmet is too thin. Something like this would really look good.

Thank you! That part isn't the plume, just part of the helmet. I tried adding a plume but nothing looked good so I just ditched the idea

I think the newest update makes me think "Spartans" a lot more than "Knight."

Now that you said that I completely agree with you. I think the helmet is giving off the spartan look. A fluffy plume would definitely help give it a "knight" look.

I'd just like to comment how impressed I am with this thread. You're making notable progress with each update and you're excepting criticism very gracefully. On top of this you're cooking up a great logo, nice work! I'd push the plume, right now I thought the chest piece was actually just a bare chest. That made me think spartan even more.

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. I do get that vibe from the chest plate as well. I will work on the plume and chest plate.
