I hate NYCFC but even I feel bad for them watching this. Geez

Nothing does more for MLS on TV than a 5-0 game on Big FOX.

I've seen as many RBNY shots on goal than FOX has shown shots of Julie Stewart-Binks three feet from the NYCFC bench with Viera feeding her information.

As a person that enjoyed watching Germany destroy Brazil in the World Cup this game was awesome.

It could be the tree in the forest anology when ratings come out.

FA Cup* going into extra time could be both a blessing (new eyes on the product) and a curse (they saw that first half, or much of it)

TFC cause....well...TFC. haha. I agree with 2001mark's comment about "us versus the world" but

That's just my 2 cents

It just rolls my eyes when I read stuff like 'MLS clubs failing to hit their marks' for branding & community support.  I mean, TFC is accomplishing everything except winning games when it matter, & it's like they're from outer space.

I'll add that it's fun.  I'd hate to be fan of a glamour side like Galaxy or NYCFC who are supposed to be kings of the league just because.

As for RedBull's beatdown, that'll last a good year & half worth's of smack over NYCFC.  I mean damn, internal bleeding styles.

So, Sac Republic hosted Liverpool's U21 team tonight and won 2-1. Is that anything to be proud of, or are those U21 EPL teams basically England's version of USL teams?

That's kinda what I figured. They had a player or two who had made the main squad for a Handful of matches, but nobody really important.

The Philadelphia Fury may be coming to NASL

Quote

It appears that officials from the Liga de Fútbol Profesional, which runs Spain's venerated La Liga, have decided the best way to do that is by partnering with investors who want to launch expansion teams here.

And the Philadelphia region is right in the crosshairs.

IF this quote is true and there is a concrete plan to turn NASL into La Liga's USL Pro then the NASL is a farce that serves no purpose. The entire appeal of the league is that it's a minor professional league that isn't bending the knee to MLS like USL Pro. That is gone if second rate teams in Europe start planting expansion teams.

The NASL is pretty much a farce of Indy, Minnesota (who’s leaving!) and a bunch of top-end USL clubs, just without the MLS affiliation.

Tampa Bay, Ottawa, Carolina, Jacksonville and even the Cosmos are solid clubs to have in the league, sure, but they do nothing to elevate it — San Antonio, Louisville, OKC Energy and Saint Louis are certainly at a similar level for the USL, with Cincinnati and Sacramento elevating the league.

This whole Philadelphia idea is… also a terrible idea! Puerto Rico’s going to blow, probably, and Eibar Philadelphia or whatever just seems really :censored:ing stupid. NASL might be able to make something happen in Chicago, because the Fire are a :censored:hole of a team and Peter Wilt is still loved, but this idea of going into existing MLS markets — they’ve talked about a return to Atlanta! — is suicidal.

The whole reason I want to see the Eleven make the move into MLS wouldn’t really hold if I didn’t feel like NASL was destined to fail. And I don’t want to play in a league that’s half a reserve league.

The sooner NASL and USL merge into one second- and third-tier league, with the MLS “affiliates” and “2” clubs only in the lower tier, the better.

I would think that the slowly floundering Cosmos would have taught the NASL a lesson.

They have a dominant winning team, with the most famous name in American soccer, in the largest market in the country (a soccer-crazy one at that).  And they're getting flat-out killed by a bad MLS expansion franchise.

With all that going for them, if they can't even grab a significant share of the New York market, what makes them think they can thrive as the second team in Chicago?  Or Miami?  Or (gods help us) Atlanta?

I think this "we're so awesome that the USSF will have to make us a co-First Division" thing has gone to their heads.

Oh, 100% absolutely. Just read what the clubs say in the press — the Eleven always talk about how they want to “build” the NASL rather than pursuing MLS, and the league’s just going to collapse around them. There are exactly two clubs in NASL right now that could help to build the league higher than a second-tier quality, and one of those is leaving.

While I prefer (in the abstract!) the NASL model to the USL one — and trust me, I want no part of playing reserve sides — it’s pretty stupid that the Eleven won’t play a series with FC Cincinnati this year, nor with Saint Louis FC and will only get one game with Louisville City, in the Open Cup. There are some great derby opportunities sitting here for the club, but their stubbornness of staying in a league that’s not moving at the same speed the club is makes for a little frustration.

It's especially maddening because the NASL should and could be building itself into a fantastic second division circuit. There are great markets still available, but instead of convincing Sacramento and Cincinnati and St. Louis that they should be playing better competition in a better league the NASL is wasting time and money and effort trying to complete directly with MLS clubs.  And not even in the top MLS markets.

With that combination of arrogance and hubris, they might find it all collapsing around team should the USL mount a serious campaign for second-division status. I get why the Cosmos would stay, since they're as delusional as the league (and may in fact be driving the league's delusion). But why on earth would Indy stick around?

I think losing Minnesota & San Antonio has really rattled the NASL.

The only recent NASL expansions I'm okay with are San Francisco (they needed a West Coast team) and Chicago (the combination of Peter Wilt & the Fire being ass gives this thing a fighting chance). The rest of their expansions have been horrible and haven't really done anything for the league. In fact I could argue that Miami FC is hurting Fort Lauderdale who's average attendance this year is well under 2,000 fans.

The craziest thing about all of this is that I bet NASL are going to plop down another team in an MLS market since Celtic is still looking for a place to put their team. In fact given how moronic these NASL expansions are I would be surprised if Celtic plops their flag in the NY metro area since they have an agreement with the Boston Celtics not to put a team in their backyard and have been, allegedly, interested in an NASL team for a while.

They'd be absolutely insane to drop their club in anywhere near NYC.   The Cosmos are struggling as it is, and they have a ton of advantages that Celtic wouldn't have.

You are forgetting the golden rules of NASL expansion

Rule 1 - :censored: Logic

Rule 2 - Remember rule 1

Those international investors in all UD soccer leagues do it for one reason: the EB5 VISA for some of their interested people. It's really cheap in terms of time. Just invest at least $1M and the line shortens greatly.

BTW, Levi's Stadium has cheap Copa America Centario tickets available via GroupOn.

The 49ers have placed games and events on GroupOn since the stadium opening.

Thinking about going to that Jamaica/Uruguay game for less than $10.
