DG_ThenNowForever
Seattle's scored an incredible 3 second-half goals today against LA. Still 10 minutes to go, but they're up 3-1, without Clint Dempsey, in a stadium they haven't won in since 2009 (Chivas doesn't count). 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

They believe there's a grand conspiracy against them; not that their current imploding status is a result of league mismanagement, poor expansion, and no strategic vision. I don't think anyone who works for the NASL actually believes any of that, it's just a cover, a public posture. NASL fans, on the other hand, eat that nonsense up. Which is why Bill Peterson and the others are happy to spew it; it absolves them of all responsibility for their terrible business model and bad decisions. In the eyes of their shrinking customer base, at least. It only goes so far, though; I'm seeing a lot of the Cosmos fans I know turn on the team, as all these reports are being met with utter silence. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Nyk33
Atlanta United appoint Gerardo 'Tata' Martino as their first ever manager. He has to be the biggest manager to ever be in MLS. He just got finished managing Argentina to two straight finals in international competitions and managed Barcelona for a year before that.

They also locked in a bunch of players this winter and summer that will be coming in at the same time rather than being put together up until the close of the winter window. Smart move by them. DG_ThenNowForever
Deadspin wonders whether this is Martino getting acclimated before potentially taking this USMNT job. MJWalker45
Deadspin spends about as much time investigating soccer as occurs in an episode of Scooby Doo.
PrimalCookie
At the City game today, and it is simply brutal out here. The feels-like is in the mid-90s. Around the 30th minute they called a water break so te players don't get dehydrated, and the beer guys (for lack of a better term) have ran out of water for fans. Whoever thought a 1:00 game in Central Florida would work out is crazy.
Nyk33
So the English press is buzzing about Sam Allardyce possibly coming to MLS. I for one think the San Jose Earthquakes would be the perfect team for him. Their stadium has the largest outdoor bar in North America so I think he would really enjoy that. Nyk33
Hopefully if Allardyce comes to MLS there can be a production of a Mike Bassett to America series. An episode about a game between teams managed by Bassett and Ted Lasso would be comedy gold.

Gothamite
The Cosmos are on track to secure the top seed in the NASL Championship playoffs, but if they make the Final they won't be able to host it at Hofstra, which is booked with a high school tournament. They have reportedly been in negotiations to sell the hosting rights to the Indy Eleven, in the event both clubs make it to the final. http://www.empireofsoccer.com/report-cosmos-could-sell-soccer-bowl-hosting-rights-54531/ What an embarrassing failure that would be, for a club that still expects to compete on the global stage. It's their last season in Hofstra regardless of what happens from what I'm hearing but that's still not a good look.

Gothamite
The obvious place is the Brooklyn Cyclones' park in Coney Island, and they are reportedly in negotiations. Not a great solution, but there aren't a whole lot of options staring them in the face. They would get lost in Citi Field or MetLife. Coffey Field in the Bronx (Fordham's stadium) is a possibility, but there are a ton of drawbacks there around transportation. Columbia's football stadium in Inwood is probably too big, but they have a 3,500 seat soccer stadium right next to it. Humbling for the club, but that might be their best choice. I also think Belson Stadium on the St. Johns campus in Queens is a dark horse to be watched. The Cosmos played a couple Open Cup games there. It's also small - tops out at 5,000 - but they don't really need more than that. And at least that has subway stations about a mile's walk away. It's still a college stadium, but a better one. I think when the Cosmos originally chose Hofstra's stadium they thought they'd consistently fill its 11,000 seats. Or at least occasionally fill them. But ticket sales lately have tended towards the low thousands (and actual attendance has even reportedly been known to dip as low as the high hundreds), so Belson would more than fit the bill. leopard88
I was wondering how Wien Stadium at Columbia was too big at 17,000, but you may have answered my question. That said, do you think a move to Manhattan could increase attendance enough to at least put it into consideration? It's a decent stadium in a pretty neat location.
