Toronto Maple Leafs to get new logo for 2016-2017 season

Sorry I know how to count, but can someone mockup or share examples of which design is the "35 point" leaf, and which are the other eras' leaves?

1938-1967

It's always bugged me how the main site has the 1938-63 logo wrong. It's not simply the '60s leaf without the outline. It's an entirely different design.

Now, I'm excited about the new logo. The current one is too corporate. The more detailed leaves have a more authentic, genuine feel. What I'm not as excited about are the new uniforms. As hockey week touched on, the Leafs have had the same socks stripes and hem stripes since, well ever (save for the '70s and '80s). I'm hoping that "new uniforms" just means the current template with a retro-looking maple leaf. Again, there's no need to try and re-invent the wheel.

Yep. The Leafs never worn anything that even remotely looks like the 63-67 logo in the previous era. The 38-63 era logo is an entirely different shape. Their crests were hand cut felt with thread outlines so each season might be a little different but the general shape is the same. They did appear to get fatter as the decades wore on.

This logo that I worked on is much closer to what the Leafs wore in the late 30s.

The Leafs have had the text inside the maple leaf ever since becoming the Maple Leafs. That's part of the brand. It needs to stay.

That is the worst reason to do anything. Doing something done badly for 90 years doesn't mean you should continue doing it.

You're assuming it's been done badly ;)

Maybe they'll pull a Browns and switch to a bluer blue?

"The new shade of blue represents the loyalty of Leafs Nation. The white remains unchanged."

"The new hue, Toronto Blue, represents the true blue loyalty of Leafs Nation. The white is symbolic of both Canada and the game of hockey and is reminiscent of the pure driven snowfall."

Maple Leafs concept by our very own Brandon Moore/BrandMooreArt. Great work as usual. I think it would be cool if they went along the lines of something like this.

A good logo should be graphical representation not a literal statement as is the case with the leafs logo, especially with the unnecessary redundancy of it being a maple leaf and having the words Maple Leafs inside of it (as if the fact that it's a maple leaf logo wasn't enough of a clue.) Either go blank, or have the letter T in the middle representing Toronto, doesn't needed to be anymore complex than that.

Something like this?

Maybe as a shoulder patch, but that's not strong enough to work as a primary. Aside from deviating from tradition, it's much too bottom-heavy.

Maybe the "T" logo would work on the sleeve.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

I just noticed that the Legends Row Maple Leaf is a leaf that has never been used before. Is there a possibility this could be the direction they are going in or is it just a one off?

I'm not feeling Brandon's concept, it's too forced and the leaf get's very wonky on each side.

your sides are wonky

nice, in the end you'll see that they actually aren't wonky at all. Come on Captain Critique, you can handle it.

LOL, im just bustin' your chops! i have no idea what i'm doing with hockey stuff honestly, i just wanted to do a design that would ruffle some hockey sticks
