On one hand, the creation of a list of the "elite" NFL teams is a completely pointless exercise. On the other hand, I'm sure ESPN is working on this idea already. (And when they do, I'm betting they include Green Bay because it's absurd and indefensible not to.)

Any attempt to determine which teams are "elite" and which teams aren't is ultimately fruitless, as elite teams come and go. Even the Patriots (to the relief of most of us) will one day become mediocre and awful. Maybe not for a few more years, but it will happen again.

That said, this isn't the point I'm looking to get across--I'm here to share what I think what Color Rush™ (or whatever you want to call it) should be.

I think the concept of Color Rush™  can work...if they dial it back, and rather significantly. No more of this shoehorning-everyone-into-monochrome crap, because league-mandated special uniforms are rarely, if ever, a good idea. (Think NBA Christmas uniforms--especially the sleeved uniforms with the colorless logos on front--and MLB's holiday special uniforms. Or do yourself a favor and don't.) No, as someone earlier in the thread mentioned, go the throwback/fauxback route, and/or emphasize colors, whether current, historical (or historically obscure).

I'd love to see the Broncos with their current Color Rush™  fauxbacks...but with navy blue pants that match the helmet. The Rams? Pair their lovely yellow tops with dark blue pants with a single, fat yellow stripe down the sides. (That, or if/when they change to Blue/Yellow, make the 1960s Blue/White the new specialty uniform.) The Ravens can, with a couple tweaks, use their Color Rush™ tops and pair it with their mustard pants. The Saints can break up all that white below the knee with black socks, as can the Panthers with their blue Color Rush™ set. The Raiders can wear their silver pants like they should (pretty much) always do with their silver-numbered uniform. Let the Jets wear white pants and kelly green socks with their kelly green tops (they should probably be doing this regularly). The Vikings can use yellow pants if they'd like. The Bills can wear white pants and red socks with their red tops. The Browns even wore silver pants for night games in the early 1950s--let's see them wear silver (well, lighter gray) pants with a matching, throwback-inspired brown top--while hitting the reset button on their regular set, of course.

Long story short? Give teams some room for a little inspiration. Let them draw upon their past if they want to, or try something that they normally can't do instead of forcing one solid color below the neck upon them (and preferably dumping the one-helmet rule). Not every team would produce a winning look in that case, but as a whole it surely couldn't be any worse than what Color Rush™ is right now.

I'm not a fan of these Vikings uniforms. The color balance is thrown way off with the removal of white from the uniforms.

Now, if they replaced the white horns with yellow, then that would be a different story.

Came here to say essentially this exact same thing.

Meanwhile, I hate to say it but Dallas looks good.  I want to dislike their uniforms so bad but I just can't.

I'll just come out and say it... those should become Dallas' primary uniforms ASAP.  Throw in a pair of silver pants to match the helmets, and they are perfect.

I had said that to my brother 2 mins into the game that the Vikings needed yellow horns.

These white jerseys with blue socks would look amazing. Throw in the blue jerseys a few times a season and you have the perfect uniforms. they could even alternate between the white and silver pants with these uniforms too

I disagree with the sentiment that these uniforms with the Cowboys need to be the primary, with matching silver pants and blue socks, of course.

The double star look is too tacky for a full time look. I don't mind it once or twice a year, but the Cowboys currently have one of the classic uniforms in the NFL, especially the helmet paired with the standard white jersey.

Here's why I think they are superior:

  • Consistent/matched blue and silver, obviously.
  • The star on the shoulders is used more as a design element rather than a simple shoulder logo. Plus, it's blue on blue so it blends into the shoulders very easily from a distance.
  • You rarely see both stars at the same time. Either the camera is at shoulder level and you see the helmet logo or the camera is above and you see the shoulder design with the front or back of the helmet. The only times you really see the "double star" effect is when the broadcast view zooms in on the profile of a player from above.
  • Lastly (and most importantly), I would argue that the glitz and glamour of the alternate uniforms fits the team's brand and image under Jerry Jones better than the traditional look. You have the gaudy-ness of AT&T Stadium, the "America's Team" nonsense, the diva mentality... While the team has plenty of tradition, they've rarely ever run the franchise like the Packers or Steelers or Giants from a branding/marketing perspective.

Lol, the Cowboys look like absolute GARBAGE in white, and the only ones who don't realize that are Cowboys fans. The blue jersey set is one of the best in the league, and the Color Rush double stars both look miles better. If anything, the current white set with the nasty sea foam green pants is what's tacky and stuck in the 70s.

Yeah, the pants need fixing, no doubt, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think the Cowboys helmet and white jersey isn't among the league's best helmet-jersey combos.

They've essentially had the same look for over 50 years. Only a handful of teams can say that.

No, I absolutely don't think the Cowboys white jersey is "one of the best" in the league when paired with the silver helmet. If it really has been around for that long, it's looked terrible for over 50 years. The royal blue numbers not matching the navy blue star and the pointless black sleeve stripe is trash. Even the look of the numbers on that jersey is out of place. The double outlines on the road and CR jersey match the logo and look so good for the cowboys. The fact that the current white jersey still even exists just shows that Jerry Jones is stubborn. It's hands down one of the worst looks in the league.

Can I LOVE a post instead of just like it?  This is a quality post.

I love the Vikings color rush jersey on its own.  Going purple head-to-toe does not work but I really like the jersey.  Of course one of my two beefs with the current look is that they under-use yellow.  I am also a sucker for jerseys without white.  It's one of the few color rush jerseys that I consider an upgrade over the primary (Broncos and maybe Rams).

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

My only issue with the Cowboys standard white uniform is how over the years their pants have basically become Seafoam Green since the NFL switched to Nike in 2012.

If you look at this pic from the Aikman era, the pants were passable due to the metallic sheen and more silver hue being added in.

It's been their home uniform since 1964 (although they didn't add the extra blue outline on the star until 1967). I'd think you'd find that most people consider this look:

To be one of the NFL's best and classic uniforms. I do agree on the changing the hideous silver-green pants and hell, I think changing back to old serif numbers would be a welcomed change, but trading these uniforms for something so amateur, would be a terrible mistake for one the NFL's marquee franchises.

Maybe the Chargers' Color Rush uniforms are a preview for their move to Los Angeles next season lol...

Serioulsy though, that uniform is excellent.  As for the Cowboys making that double-star permanent, maybe on the road.  The classic look should stay at home...mismatched pants and all.
