Future of NFL "Color Rush"

It's been their home uniform since 1964 (although they didn't add the extra blue outline on the star until 1967). I'd think you'd find that most people consider this look:

To be one of the NFL's best and classic uniforms. I do agree on the changing the hideous silver-green pants and hell, I think changing back to old serif numbers would be a welcomed change, but trading these uniforms for something so amateur, would be a terrible mistake for one the NFL's marquee franchises.

Heres the problem with that. The original set and the current set aren't the same uniforms. Trying to compare the Cowboys current set to the original, classic look, is problematic because they've made several changes, and haven't adapted the current look well to current jersey cuts.

The classic set had some flaws, but it gets a pass for several reasons:

1) The serifed numbers were a really good look for them. They changed them to this really terrible looking SUPER thick block set that looks miserably bad. Look how absolutely bloated Aikman and Romo's numbers look on their jerseys. There's absolutely no rhyme and reason why those numbers should be so damn big and fat.

2) The old look gets a pass on colors because that was more a product of the era and the limit they had when it came to materials. In today's world where we can (theoretically) match every element down to the Pantone value, and where every out of place thread is visible on these huge HD screens (which are even in the Cowboys own damn building), there is ZERO excuse for such a discrepancy to still exist. Especially when it's intentional. You can keep the integrity of a uniform set intact while still fixing some of the glaring weaknesses when possible. Not doing so is just petty and short sighted. You talk about not wanting them to ditch their set for "something so amateur", but the problem is they look downright high schoolish with that white set they currently have.

The Cowboys have SO much potential to look like one of the best teams in the league, and it's a damn shame that they don't. And the only reason they don't is because they've got their heads so far up their own smug asses that they can't see that what's holding them back is themselves. The Cowboys are STUPIDLY close to looking amazing. This is evident with how awesome their navy blue set looks. But with Jonnie Walker Jerry at the helm and the kiss their own asses fan base they have, a good home look for them might as well be on Mars because they insist that not matching is somehow iconic instead of completely stupid.

FWIW, the silver-green pants, lighter blue numbers, and black-accented striping are all relics of a legitimate issue in the 80s/90s where the correct colors looked too dark on TV. The Cowboys matching numbers played as dark blue/black on old TVs. I know that is all common knowledge, but this change occurred early in the Jerry Jones era and I can only assumed he is overly attached to design elements rendered obsolete by HDTV. I agree with the camp that wants to change the number font and matching colors only - Dallas is arguably the single most iconic NFL team and does not need a major overhaul, just minor tweaks.

The only real problem with the Cowboys current uniform is the silver/green pants. They need to go back to the traditional silver/gray pants and they will be fine. The other things members have pointed out are issues that could be improved upon but are basically nit picking.

Yep.  Pick one silver and one blue, and the homes are perfect.

Yeah, that.

Pardon the old quote. Posting from my phone and its glitchy.

Id love to see Dallas use elements of their blue jersey as a base for a new home set (without the double outlined numbers). The stripe with a star is really nice without the borderline tackiness of the shoulder stars.

And Dallas should never wear white pants. Pick one silver for home/road and you're good to go.

Or, to be most accurate, pick two blues.. The silver blue of the helmets/pants, and the navy of the jerseys and logos.. But I agree that 3 "silvers" and at least two blues (along with the unnecessary black) is less than ideal.. Whatever they need to do to look like the Staubach-era cowboys is exactly what they need to do.

The black on the sleeves looks pretty bad up close, though from a distance it's benign.

As a Dallasite, most Cowboys fans I know prefer the navy jersey and color rush jersey to the standard homes.

But then again, most Cowboys fans I've been brave enough to nerd-out with have no idea that the cowboys even use more than one shade of blue, let alone multiple silvers or the black outline.

Could you imagine how much more bank Jerry would pocket if the Cowboys got new unis?  I'm sure they're a top 5 jerseys sales team already, but a new set that matches would cement them as #1 as fans would clamor and buy the new ones.

If they win the Super Bowl though they won't change for sure. I believe the Rams were the last team to change after winning the Super Bowl and they've gone downhill ever since. Bad mojo.

They already had red socks so they just stuck with what they had

I just wondered as every team got solid socks. Even the bears tweaked their blue socks.
