Way too much time spent walking him when you can just say "hey we're walking this guy". On one hand, I get it. It slows down the game, it's usually automatic in how it is executed, so just get it done with and improve the "pace of play". Counter-point: Make them throw the pitches. cmm
Yeah, there's no need to eliminate the intentional walk to speed up games. They don't take that long and don't happen too often. I've been saying this for years, but you can easily shave a few minutes off of nearly every Sunday game and all games played in the stupid Bronx if you end the God Bless America nonsense. Do that before you tinker with intentional walks.
Still MIGHTY
They do it in the high school games I cover, and I've gotta say that I appreciate it. I'd also be in favor of shanking anyone that throws more than 3 pick-off attempts in any at-bat. | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |
The Six
Intentional walks don't even slow down games, though. How long does a normal at-bat take? Four straight balls probably takes less time than your average work-the-count/foul-off-every-other-pitch plate appearance.

infrared41
This is why we throw four pitches for an intentional walk. There are better ways to speed up the game.
TheRicSlick
How about if a manager signals for the intentional walk, and the pitcher only has to throw one pitch then the batter can take his base. Speeds up the game, and the pitcher still has to throw at least one ball.
BBTV
Instead of a four pitch intentional walk, the pitcher should just drill the hitter. Saves three pitches and creates the potential of a brawl. How about, as 2001mark mentioned a few posts back, instead of taking baseball plays out of baseball to speed up the game, we take all the extraneous nonsense like stepping out of the box after every pitch, etc. out of the game to speed up the game? Making an intentional walk automatic is only going to save time in games when there's actually an intentional walk. Removing all the other nonsense saves time in every game. FiddySicks
I'm so glad I picked tonight's game when buying my yearly set of Giants tickets all those months ago. Bum got the shutout, AND knocked in the game's only run. Best part? I'll be home WAY sooner than I ever thought I would. 1-0 games are my absolute favorite. Hey, two out of three against the Cubs (who, despite the big slump, still are a top team) is more than I was expecting going into this series. Hopefully, this success translates into wins against the Dodgers, other NL powerhouses, and NL West bottom-feeders. BTW, I hope Heston is ready soon. neo_prankster
Padres deliberately screwed up yesterday's national anthem, and for that, I say they deserved to lose. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/padres-apologize-to-gay-mens-choir-for-national-anthem-mix-up/ Sorry Friars, but "sorry" makes you guys sound worse in this situation. I say send the Padres to Carson and retrofit Petco Park for football. The Fictional Story of Austus
Seadragon76
I'm loving what's been going on in Seattle... but, for the love of me, I can't figure out why they seem to stink up Safeco while taking care of business on the road? It seems so counter productive for a winning team.
ninersdd
Me thinks Richard Sherman was a good signing so far for the Giants. What a weird, yet great ending for the Giants. BEAR DOWN ARIZONA!2013/14 Tanks Picks Champion

I went out on a bit of a limb at the beginning of the year and picked Cueto as my Cy Young winner in the NL.
