I think the medical issue wasn't on Bruce, but one of the throw ins going the Reds' way.

Correct, it wasn't Bruce and it wasn't Nimmo from what I've seen.

Ervin Santana is a Blue Jay.  Ok.

He just followed @Cubs on twitter, so take that for with its worth.

Edit: Looks like Santana follows everything under the sun, so I'm probably looking too much into that that.

Giants just dealt Phil Bickford (This better be for someone BIG) and Andrew Susac (Ok, so, like, the ONLY real trade chip they had, so again, it better be for someone BIG) to the Brewers for, wait for it...

Will :censored:ing Smith.

I actually like this trade.

Bickford profiles as a high-A relief pitching prospect with control issues (which the Giants have been burned by before, i.e. Crick), Susac was supplanted by Trevor Brown, and Smith is having an abnormally bad year in Milwaukee. Get him at AT&T, have him work with the Giants' coaching staff, and you'll have a long relief guy who can work well alongside Suarez and give the bullpen the punch-up it needs.

I was never high on Bickford either. In the long run I don't think the Giants will regret trading him. Arroyo and some of the high level pitching prospects are probably off limits.

Giants fans on social media are being total divas over this. They're saying things like "Indians paid less for Miller!" while claiming the Giants overpaid for Smith with their #1 pitching prospect and that Bobby Evans has made too many bad deals.

These fans seem to be forgetting that the Giants' farm system usually has a middle-to-low ranking, so a #1 from the Giants' system would be worth less than the #1 from, say, the Rangers or Indians' system. The Giants had to spend more to get a pitcher in an inflated market for relievers (which they need, desperately). I'm happy they didn't blow major-league level talent on Chapman or Miller, as this team is built to win with the guys at the major-league and AAA/AA level. Bickford was some time away from reaching this position.

As for Bobby Evans, I've liked what he's done. Heck, I'll defend the Leake deal. The team was in a position to contend in 2015, and Duvall simply couldn't have become an all-star at AT&T Park. Duvall struck out far too often (an area that has not improved for him on the Reds), and he was blocked in the outfield by more qualified players. Leake was decent with the Giants for the most part, and the Giants thankfully decided not to prolong his stay with the team. Shark performed well for most of the first half (I trust him in the rotation more than Leake, I'll say that much) and Cueto has been fantastic. The only signing I'm critical of is Span, and that's only because he's had neck injury trouble. He's far better than Aoki, who has largely been unimpressive with the Mariners.

I think this trade was a good one. It might not be the best, but it's what the Giants need to hang on to the division.

EDIT: Now the Giants have acquired Matt Moore for Matt Duffy, Lucius Fox, and an unnamed prospect. Again, I support this trade. The two prospects involved are blocked by reliable guys at the major-league level (so they are good trade chips). Duffy hurts a little bit. I've liked the guy since he was called up in late-2014, and his defense was excellent (a huge bonus), but I can understand why the Giants wanted to sell high on him. Duffy really wasn't able to recapture his 2015 numbers this year, the defense wasn't all there, and injury concerns have really put his future at the major-league level into question. Moore is coming off of a strong stretch, can pick up Peavy/Cain/Shark's spot in the rotation if need be, and can help put the team over the edge. All in all, I'm happy with the Giants' deadline acquisitions.

Maybe the medical issue was with Nimmo after all. He stays with the Mets. Dilson Herrera, the best player to ever wear number 2 in New York baseball history, goes to the Reds. Good luck, Dilson. #re2pect

If Will Smith (Na na na na na na na) didn't have the injury issues he does, I'd be a LOT happier with this deal. As it stands, the giants just dealt their top pitching prospect and their only real trade chip for a poor mans Jeremy Affeldt. Ouch.

And, Mat Moore just got dealt to the Giants. That move I really like. But if it's for Arroyo or (gulp) Duffy, it's WAY too much.

EDIT: Aaaaand it was for Matt Duffy. What the :censored: are you doing, Giants?

The Giants needed to sell high on Duffy. His drop in offensive and defensive production this season was really troubling, Nunez is a good replacement (his defense may be a bit suspect, but Pablo wasn't much of a defensive stud either), and injury concerns mounted up. I'm pleased with that move, even though I like Matt Duffy and the play he put on at third last year. The Giants had to sell high on Duffy, before he became a Arroyo-blocking liability at third.

Dan, if you want a sip, I've got some Elixir of Numb left over from the NHL season. That should calm your nerves a little, and remember, nothing as ill-informed as the Wheeler trade happened today.

A lot is coming here:

As a Rays fan I love our haul in the Matt Moore trade, but I have to say that I think he will become a very good #3 with the G-men. Still don't quite understand the Will Smith trade though, they gave up too much for a mediocre reliever.

I'm still shocked Puig wasn't dealt, and to a lesser extent, Derek Norris, Jose Quintana, Jeanmar Gomez, Matt Kemp (yes, makes no sense as a Brave), and Brian McCann. Marlins should've gotten another starter. D-Backs should've sold. And the Mariners should've done at least something, and trading Wade Miley only decreases their playoff chances, even if ever so slightly. Also, the Astros should've bought a few pieces.

Moore will be solid for you guys, hated to see him go but his contract moving forward wasn't Rays-friendly.  I do like Duffy, and a buddy of mine from your area says Lucius Fox could be a stud (I love that we traded for Batman's tech advisor).

Where could Duffy slot?  He played 3B for you, but we have Longo there.....can he play SS?
