Count me in as another guy who was suckered in by Josh Freeman. It's still inexplicable to me how he fell so far from his first couple seasons. It's like he had the career yips.

 

Similarly, I also bought into David Garrard and Derek Anderson after '07. In my defense, Garrard was very impressive that season in Jacksonville despite injuries, and anyone who can coax a winning season out of the Cleveland :censored:ing Browns like Anderson did deserves respect. I also thought RG3 would be the best quarterback of his draft. Whoops.

 

I actually bought into the Clippers after winning that series against the Spurs. Then Games 5, 6 and 7 against Houston came along and reminded me that we can't have nice things. Speaking of the Clippers, I was thrilled about the Doc Rivers trade. I thought Eric Gordon and Al Thornton would develop into stars for us. Like a lot of fans back then who were wowed by his dunks and his 35-point game in MSG, I thought Mike Taylor was going to be what Eric Bledsoe turned out to be. I was excited about the Baron Davis signing and the Andre Miller trade. I always thought next year was going to be the year that Mo Taylor got it together and lived up to his potential, for real this time.

 

I thought the Astros were going to win it all in 2004 (after they got Beltran) and 2005. I thought 2000 and 2006 were going to be the Mets' year for sure. I picked the Mariners in '01, the Rockies in '07, and the Rays in '08.

I know it's not over yet, but I thought the Tannehill era in Miami would've been better.  Jets & Bills not off the ground yet, it shouldn't have been so difficult to succeed some.

During the second period of the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals, I knew the Sabres were going to win the Cup that year. 

 

Also, I was dead wrong about soccer. I used to think it was boring. I got into it a bit during the last few World Cups, and this year's Olympics pushed me over the edge. I watched every game I could (including making my wife drive so I could watch the US Women's team on my phone) and soon found myself not being able to get enough. This weekend, I found myself glued to EPL action, caught both medal games yesterday, and a bit of a few MLS games.

I've been a soccer fan -- mostly MLS and USMNT -- for about four years now, and the great thing about the sport is that it basically never ends. There's some tournament, cup or league happening throughout the year and there's always something to get excited about. It was a pretty good run from 2013 Gold Cup to 2014 World Cup to 2015 Copa America to 2016 Copa America and Olympics, to say nothing of good Sounders season, the USWNT, Euro 2016, and the miracle Leiscester season.

 

Soccer's great.

And if you expand your general watching to Europe, you add in a while wintertime of various European leagues(take your pick of favourite countries, from France to Germany to Italy to England), a cycle of World Cup, Women's World Cup, Euros/Olympics, Women's euros and repeat.

 

Not to mention, there is almost always z soccer team near you to go see in person, from MLS to NASL to USL to NPSL to even college.

Right, because a 29 year old guy who hasn't stood in the box against anything other than high school pitching (and that was 12 years ago) is just going to waltz his way right on to a Major League roster. Yeah, not gonna happen. 

 

The only way Tim Tebow will get paid to set foot on a baseball field is if he's part of a Minor League gimmick night

I could see an unaffiliated/independent league team wanting to sign him to sell tickets...but they would have to pay him very little to make that work.  And I don't think he'll want to play in a league like that for reasons like that.

 

I will set my self up to possibly be wrong...some MLB team will sign him.  He'll play a little class A ball.  And the story, and he, will fade away.

 

He's a great athlete and he'll leave no stone un-turned in trying to make this happen.  He was a very good high school player.  The chances are, after this much time off, that he'd look indistinguishably as bad as I would against MLB pitching.  But he may be able to stand in there against low minor league pitching.

Any criticism of Tebow turns the Tebow cult members against you. People think he is criticized because of his great faith.

I HATE the winner argument. It only works if you have talent. He won in college because he had great talent at the collegiate level. He won the playoff game for the Broncos against Pittsburgh because the defense was great. He just didn't screw it up.
