I love Center Ice, best reoccurring expense I sign up for. But I'm also a guy who likes to watch the oddball matchups, like Hurricanes - Canucks or Kings - Bruins. I always use the home broadcast of whichever game I have on, good way to catch some of the little anecdotes about the team or players.

Big sigh at this topic going the way it always goes on this site. "They shouldn't limit teams, unless it's the ones I want to watch!"

Center Ice is the best if you have the right television provider. I got hooked in when they offered the season for $50 after the 2012 lockout. If you order it on DirecTV, you get home and road feeds for nearly all games, all in HD. Then we moved out to the suburbs and got stuck with Comcast/Xfinity, because it's basically the only viable option for cable and internet in the vast majority of Chicagoland. For the same price as what I described above from DirecTV, Comcast offers a maximum of 2 games a night in HD. And if the allure of watching most games in letterboxed 480i doesn't pry $160 away from you, Comcast only offers one feed per game, which means you're often in for a world of hurt if you want to watch a game involving Anaheim, Arizona, or Pittsburgh. The company owns the freaking league broadcast rights and does this.

I have Comcast here in Sacramento and I now fully understand why it's one of the lowest rated companies every single year when it comes to customer satisfaction. I've seriously never dealt with a more frustrating organization in my life.

Worst company ever.  I'm constantly frustrated with them.

For those with Center Ice or Game Center Live, this won't make much difference, but this could be a huge plus for those without:

Twitter will be streaming select out of market games for free,  this season.

Depending on the strength of the Twitter streams, this could be very helpful.

I'd love to see the NBA do something along these lines as well.

Brayden Schenn gets a 4 year deal worth $20.5 million. He's a solid center who might finally be starting to live up to the hype surrounding him. I'd like to see a little more production from him, though.

If it is successful, I'd say it very well could be. IIRC, the NHL is kind of piggybacking on a lot of the MLB's network, acting as a client and using their infratructure. This is likely why those two are on with this.

Interesting idea.  I'd be up for giving it a shot.  Has anyone been using Gamecenter Live for streaming?  I've been really thinking about jumping in on that either through my PS4 or AppleTV.  I was just curious if it's worth the money?  I used Center Ice once a while back, and it was a nightmare trying to cancel it the following season when I was moving.

Still think it's a bit of a joke that we don't get a prime time rematch of the Finals, but the number sounds about right for Sharks broadcasts on the good old NBCSN.

I've paid for GCL and found it quite useful, though for some reason it had issue streaming on my laptop, but never my phone. I mean, I could still use Chromecast to then stream it to my TV, but I found it great to use when I wanted to watch the top matchups when I was working out.

Bettman downplaying the link between concussions and CTE in a response to congress.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/nhl/2016/07/27/sports/gary-bettman-cte-concussions/87587458

I know that it's kind of his job to downplay it until there is conclusive proof, but to say that science has failed to establish even a casual link between the two? Come on, Gary: A: do you not pay attention to what's going on over at the NFL? B: there's no way you're dumb enough to believe that and smart enough to have been made commissioner...right?

Bettman's job is to go to bat for the league and make the league money.  Much like Goddell with the NFL and any other commissioner for their league, Bettman is going to "defend the shield" no matter what.

What do you want these commissioners to say...."Yes, playing our game could lead to life-threatening and life-changing health factors."?

Downplay them? Sure, but to go out of his way to say that there isn't even an indication of a casual relation is ignoring not only multiple studies, but fairly common sense.

Also, since when is looking out for the players and wanting to take reasonable precautions to protect them fear-mongering? Just because you're the Commissioner, doesn't mean you have to be an ass-hat about it.

You must seriously not understand the legal implications of him stating such. Him making even the slightest acknowledgement that there is indead a link of CTE caused by concussions can put him in some deep crap legally.

I do understand that, and I'm not saying he should, I'm saying he doesn't need to go out of his way to make claims that are obviously wrong to anyone with a working brain and access to sports news for the past decade.

So you're equating difficulty in grasping basic weather patterns with voicing exasperation at poor behavior and wondering why we can't have a commissioner who defends the league without stigmatizing people who science has already indicated could be suffering due to their involvement in said league?

I understand the defense, but struggle with the justification for the lengths gone to in said defense.

The NHL doesn't care about the former players suffering from CTE. They have their own best interests in mind. That's just the hard truth.

This headline scared the hell out of me until I realized it was about Evander.

This sounds like a line from a movie in the 1930s or 1940s. Seriously who says this??
