If you could make one change to each team...

The rules here are simple: No rebranding, and no adding new colors to the scheme. I'll start with the NFL:

AFC

East

Patriots: No side panels.

Dolphins: More orange.

Jets: Standardize the shade of green.

Bills: De-taper the helmet stripe.

North

Bengals: No side panels.

Browns: Remove wordmark from pants.

Steelers: Dump bumblebee alternates.

Ravens: Put stripes on black pants.

South

Colts: White facemask? (Can't really think of one for them.)

Titans: Make helmet stripe more, um, "normal."

Jaguars: Kill gradient. Preferably back to plain black helmet.

Texans: Make red jersey primary.

West

Chiefs: Get sleeve stripes fixed where they're not getting cut off midway---probably move them up.

Broncos: Trim side panels so they don't intrude onto the front of the jersey.

Chargers: Make light blue jersey primary.

Raiders: Can't think of anything.

NFC

East

Cowboys: Drop black trim from sleeve stripes.

Giants: Red alternate? Add small amount of red to blue jersey? Not sure.

Eagles: Green pants full-time with white jersey, never with green jersey.

Redskins: Burgundy pants at least as an option.

North

Lions: Drop black altogether.

Packers: Kill blue throwbacks.

Bears: Orange numerals on blue jerseys full-time.

Vikings: Shiny helmet instead of matte.

South

Panthers: Bring back black pants.

Saints: No black-over-black.

Falcons: 1990s throwbacks.

Buccaneers: Change number font.

West

Rams: Gold pants.

49ers: Kill black alternate.

Seahawks: Slightly more green (for what it is, they pull off their look extremely well).

Cardinals: Kill red pants.

Astros: Make orange the primary color. So hats, word mark lettering, and undershirts, would be orange. Navy would be secondary.

I want to see one major league team emphasize orange instead of reducing it to secondary or trim.

I'll do my teams

Bengals - lose white side panels

Reds - lose the black billed road cap

Blue Jackets - go back to the oval shaped hat logo as the shoulder patch on the primaries

Ohio Bobcats football - put stripes on the pants that match the helmets and shoulders

Ohio State football - go back to the throwback sleeve stripes permanently

NFL (in no particular order)

Agree with the Patriots getting rid of side panels.

Ravens should lose the tapered helmet stripes, add gold and purple stripes

49ers should fix the sleeve stripes

Saints should darken the gold to the more old-gold they used to have

Browns should dump wordmark from jersey and pants

My Teams:

  • Twins: Dump the gold
  • Vikings: Yellow outline on the numbers (may look weird, I suppose on the serif font; is "yellow-outlined block numbers" one "thing?")
  • Wolves: Dump black in favor of green
  • Wild: Green road jersey to match the white road (relegating red to alt)
  • Wisconsin Football: Drop the black dropshawdow
  • Wisconsin Hoops: Use home/road based on the recent 70s throwback
  • Wisconsin Hockey: Drop the laces

A few others:

  • Sharks: Drop the orange piping/stripe or add another to make the pattern symmetrical; their choice
  • Blue Jays: No white panel cap
  • Orioles: Standing bird
  • Rangers (TX): Remove the drop shadows from everything the hats.
  • Reds: Drop all black
  • Cavs: No blue
  • Clippers: Nope...no "one thing" can help.
  • Steelers: Block numbers
  • Lions: No black
  • Colts: Blue facemasks
  • Canucks: Work some green into the primary
  • Flames: No black
  • Lightning: Some sort of trim color (silver or black)
  • Hurricanes: Flag logo as primary

NHL:

Anaheim: Make the orange alternate the full-time home

Calgary: Stop with the piping. Just stop.

Carolina: Bring back the warning flags.

Colorado: Start using the alternate, or something with more burgundy, as the home. The piping kills their current set.

Edmonton: Bring the orange jerseys as the full time homes.

Panthers: Do this upcoming rebrand right! The logo is ok as it is, but the jerseys are kind of a mess.

Minnesota: Have a matching set. Make the home look more like the away jersey, rather than having no jersey consistency.

NY Islanders: Add a little orange and blue to the new black jerseys. I'm in the minority that likes the new alternates, but they could be better.

Ottawa: New jerseys! Reebok really screwed you guys over.

Pittsburgh: Same thing as Ottawa, except use the throwback-alternate as the basis for a new away.

San Jose: Don't be so boring! It might "add extra weight" to your jerseys, but a more interesting design is in place.

Tampa Bay: Forge your own identity. The logo is good, but a unique jersey set with hints of lightning and some "victory stripes" would be nice.

Toronto: Again, make sure this upcoming rebrand is done right! The logo is good, the jerseys should be too!

Vancouver: Stick with the C-In-The-Rink logo, and ditch the "Vancouver" script on the jerseys.

Washington: You have both the red and white throwback jerseys, so why not go to them full time? They're SO much better than the piping-filled mess of a jersey you use now.

  • Rangers (TX): Remove the drop shadows from everything

I think they did this in 2014, as wordmarks, names, and numbers are now all flat with a double outline. The drop shadows were terrible and unneeded.  I think the hat logo is the only thing that has a drop shadow.

Holy cow, you are right.

Guess I was paying about as much attention as the average fan...

That definitely makes the entire thing less muddy.  I still think the little serifs and double outline make it a bit over-done (particularly the NOB).  But now if I had "one" change, I'd say drop the shadow on the hat logo.

I've always felt the Astros were a dark navy blue team with orange trim, so I would keep that the same. My tweak would be a non-block/non-cursive wordmark, similar to the shooting star jerseys of the 70's, but without the shooting star. Maybe add a single star to each stirup like that uniform had.7987058058_1c87cc094c_o.png

NBA-

Raptors: Only use one black jersey. I don't care which one.

Celtics: Drop all alts except St. Patrick's Day

Knicks: Make armhole trim go all the way around.

Nets: Use star trim alt, sleeveless, as basis for new jerseys.

Sixers: Win sometimes.

Cavs: One wine jersey, one gold jersey, one white. That's it.

Pacers: Drop Hickory alt.

Pistons: All alts are dropped in favor of a red version of their away uni.

Bulls: No gray alt.

Bucks: Replace black alt with a cream one based on the regular design.

Heat: No crazy alts. Black, red, white.

Hawks: Replace volt with athletic gold.

Hornets: Match number colors to wordmark colors on all jerseys, complete with outline.

Wizards: Surprisingly I don't have anything.

Magic: Make side panels on home uniforms blue.

Thunder: Stick to home and away jerseys.

Blazers: Use wordmark and number treatment from red alt on all jerseys.

Jazz: Take "Utah" off their butts.

Nuggets: Go full-time skyline.

Wolves: Bring green back.

Warriors: White at home, Blue on the road, gold throwback, thats it.

Clippers: Home design for all jerseys.

Kings: Lean into the retro design.
Suns: Match numbers and wordmark on black alt.

Lakers: No more Hollywood Nights alt.

Spurs: No more camo.

Mavs: Make logos/court match jersey colors. No more black anywhere.

Grizzlies: Add back in the number inlines on all jerseys.

Rockets: White home, red away, gray alt. No yellow or black with this identity.

Pelicans: Put "Pelicans" or "NOLA" on all jerseys. "New Orleans" comes out way too small.

Red Sox: Return to blue undershirts, pre-2004 socks (with blue and white stripes). Remove NOB from away uniform.

Yankees: Remove white outlines from away uniform, remove sleeves stripes from away uniform

Orioles: Eliminate the sleeve patch (needless clutter)

Indians: Drop Wahoo entirely

Tigers: Drop the white outline on the road uniform

Angels: Make the halo gold, eliminate all sleeve patches, put "Los Angeles" on the road (halo over the "A," obviously), and use white-on-red lettering on the alternate

Mariners: Eliminate silver from the jerseys, and use a simple blue-outlined-in-teal wordmark.

Rangers: Put "Rangers" on the home, eliminate the red caps and socks, and eliminate the double outline on all wordmarks (wouldn't mind a total rebrand, though)

Astros: Remove the piping and front numbers, and put the shooting star back over the wordmark (both home and away)

Phillies: Drop the white outline around wordmark, remove the sleeve numbers, and remove the sleeve stripes

Nationals: Use "Nationals" script on home uniform, drop the blue alt (if they haven't already)

Mets: Eliminate the road alternate and all caps other than the traditional orange NY (without any outlines)

Braves: Remove all piping (muddles the beautiful wordmark), make the "Atlanta" script red on the blue alt, eliminate the red alt

Pirates: Burn the black alternates (it's not even that they're bad, they're just the most overworn jerseys in baseball, and prevent us from seeing more of the amazing primaries)
Reds: Eliminate the black dropshadows (I would also prefer a return to block fonts)

Cubs: Use blue wordmark outlined in red on the road uniform (or basically revert to an Ernie Banks-era road uniform)

Cardinals: Put "St. Louis" on the away uniform

Giants: Return to 2010 road uniform

Dodgers: Eliminate the unnecessary "Dodgers" road alt, remove "LA" logo from sleeves

I could see the Rangers improving their brand.  The fact they dropped this logo for one of the more boring roundels was a bad choice.  The homage to the Texas Ranger badge was great...the pinstripes were unnecessary.

Agreed, pinstripes aside, that was a pretty good logo. Miles better than the generic logo they have now (that you can barely pick out of a lineup of MLB team logos).

I would kind of like to see a Rangers rebrand around the Nolan Ryan-era home uniforms, but going this route could be great as well.

See, I thought about using the old-gold as the Saints' example, but I figured it'd be running afoul of my own "no new colors" rule. I also thought about explicitly stating "no reverting back to old uniforms" but figured it would be covered by what I ended up putting. You're free to interpret the rules differently, of course.

On that note: Is the change to dull-looking metallics a team thing or a league thing? It seems to be almost league-wide throughout the Big 4, particularly where metallic gold is concerned.

Raptors: Bring back the purple

Hornets: White numbers on the purple and teal jerseys

Badges?! They don't need no stinking badges!

Sorry. Carry on.

Cleveland Indians:  Drop that ridiculous "C".

Washington Nationals:  That "Nationals" script jersey would be nice.

Milwaukee Brewers:  Make the BiG primary once again.

San Diego Padres:  Stick with the Friar.

New Orleans Saints:  Back to the original jersey with the stripes on the sleeves.  Of course, I suppose one would need sleeves for stripes.

New Orleans Pelicans:  Make "New Orleans" bigger on the blue and white jerseys.  Or, just change the color to purple and call them the Jazz.

Anaheim Ducks:  Let's go back to eggplant and teal.

Just going to do my teams...

Toronto Maple Leafs: N/A gotta see what their new set looks like first.

Toronto Blue Jays: Lose the navy trim on the road wordmark.

Toronto Raptors: Outlines around the name/numbers/wordmark.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats: Add two gold stripes to the middle of the helmet.

San Diego Chargers: Drop the navy.
