omnivore
https://twitter.com/SmithRaps/status/720036366902542336 This must be a Toronto thing because the Jays like unveiling banners during the post-season too. I prefer this, tbh then waiting until the following year to unveil it. Also if you end up winning more than one, it gives fans something to look at. M4One
I think it's because they know they haven't really won anything and were on the verge of choking away another series until they won game 7, so they just put it up without any fanfare.
AstroCree
I prefer waiting until the next season in case they accomplish something bigger than that. The Mets flew a "2015 NL East Division Championship" Flag after they won the division. Later they won the NL Pennant and now the East Division Flag is nowhere to be seen. Then again the Mets aren't the type of team to hang multiple banners and flags for a single year, they only hang the bigger accomplishment. You're never gonna see 6 Flags or Banners that say EAST DIVISION CHAMPIONS.
BigBubba
Their three other division championship banners were unveiled the game after they clinched with a decent amount of fanfare. There's some sense to that — if you fail to win anything greater, it won't mean as much if you hang it on opening day the following season (with the playoff disappointment on top of everyone's minds, not the regular-season success). Better to hang it while it's still relevant. Im guessing that they raised it silently this year because of their first-round exits the past two seasons. You don't wanna be seen as the team who makes a point of winning the division only to accomplish nothing beyond that. Better to shift your emphasis towards more important accomplishments. Nobody cares about your humungous-big signature. PotD: 29/1/
