Indoor Professional League (indoor soccer)

Officially announced today, will kick off for the 2016-17 season.

First four teams are the Baltimore Blast, Harrisburg Heat, St. Louis Ambush (all formerly of the MASL) and the Lakeland-based Florida Tropics SC.

If the Tropics' logo looks familiar, it's because it was originally designed by dbroalexander as his Flint Tropics hockey concept.  Both parties confirmed that he did indeed grant his permission and even tweaked his design a bit to suit the team.

I LOVE seeing our designers get paid professional work around here!

There was also a Florida Tropics baseball team.  It played in the Senior League (full name "Senior Professional Baseball Association") in the inuagural 1989-90 season under the name "West Palm Beach Tropics".  It adopted the name "Florida Tropics" for the second season of 1990-91.  Alas, the league never completed that second season, folding in December of 1990.

It had the same colours as this soccer team, and used a similar motif of the palm tree to form the letter T in the "Tropics" wordmark.

The team had some big names in its first year:
