People who go not just to watch baseball.

I'll disagree with you here.  It's not just about needing or wanting non-baseball amenities.

I think Miller Park is a bad place to watch baseball because of its large, imposing roof that always looms over the action.  It blocks out the sun and creates awful shadow patterns, which hamper my own ability to watch baseball.

I go to different ballparks because I love baseball and I will watch every pitch all 9 innings, but baseball isn't a game that requires constant attention. There's a lot of downtime at a baseball game so if I'm at a new park, yeah I look around, I take a stroll to the different sections and see what each part of the park is like, I sample the foods and drinks, I'll check out the artworks and/or exhibits if they have any on display. I love that stuff.

Pretty much this.  Even from my seat, I don't focus solely on pitcher-batter.  I wonder if that's a future for MLB viewers- multi live camera angles available from different 'seats' for tv/screens.

I've been to the majority of the "roofed" parks (5 of the 7. I haven't been to the SkyDome or Marlins Park), and the only one that didn't feel in some way really strange was Safeco. But that's because the nature of how the roof was built was different than all the rest. All of the retractable roof parks feel strange because the roof is part of the main structure of the park, so even when they're open, they still feel like giant shoe boxes with the lid removed. Safeco, on the other hand, has the roof as a separate structure (they use it to cover the train tracks on sunny days) and the park feels like an actual outdoor park with a canopy that can slide over the top. I was thinking that it would be cool if they could just invest in a similar structure that could slide over Globe Life, but the price would probably be close to what an entire new stadium would be anyway. Also, Seattle has the advantage of very mild summers and it never gets all that cold during the early and late parts of the season. I kinda don't think a structure like that would work very well in a place like Dallas or Phoenix where it gets sweltering in the summer, or Milwaukee where its freezing to start the season.
