NFL Alternate Universe - 2007 Postseason

541 posts in this topic

What if, instead of folding completely, the NFL absorbed USFL teams in 1986 much like WHL into the NHL and ABA into the NBA?

I present to you an alternate universe NFL.

Current year: 2007

I like the idea for the thread but I'd give them their own identify instead of just swapping over the Jaguars unis with the outlaws logos. Also how many teams are getting absorbed into this nfl?

I'm going about this using the Terminator "destiny" route. In that, certain things are destined to be.

As far as how many teams, 4 of the 8 USFL teams that would have started the 1986 season if they didn't try to compete in the fall with the NFL. Arizona is one of them, the other 3 are yet to come.

i don't think outlaws have jaguar printed bandannas.... it think it would be cool if you gave them their own identity like BenD said

I've decided to go ahead with having each team have their own identity.

Here are your 1995 Arizona Outlaws.

2009

- Brighter red

- Color-changing helmet

- Terrible pinstripes

I'm trying to mix identity with destiny.

You're not going to be able to make a good AH if you let something like destiny control what you think. IMO, a modernized Outlaws template should really keep the Copper. The Copper is huge part of what makes the Wranglers/Outlaws unique color-wise, and getting rid of it makes them The Falcons.

Here are some updates:

1995 - Added back some copper

2009 - Copper returns as a prominent color. "AC/DC" jerseys are introduced.

I like the idea you have, but I really wish you would stay consistent with which templates you use.

I'm only using 2 templates; one for 1986-2011 and another for 2012-Present, since that's when Nike took over as the uniform supplier.

The Buccaneers were already in Tampa. I'm looking at markets that didn't have NFL teams, and teams that were ready to start the 1986 season.

The Raiders were already in LA by 1986. Also, after 1985 the entirety of the league's Western Conference, with the exception of the Arizona Outlaws, folded. This meant the end of the Portland Breakers, Los Angeles Express, San Antonio Gunslingers, Denver Gold, Houston Gamblers and Oakland Invaders. The loss of the Western Conference required a realignment of the league's (ostensibly) eight remaining teams. The three Florida teams would have joined Arizona as the "Independence Division," while the "Liberty Division" would comprise the four other teams.
