From what I've been hearing, US made poly caps will be making a return in at least some capacity this year (US made with imported materials, though). I'm sure it won't be the full run, but MUCH better than the all Chino garbage they had last time around.

That's good to hear - I have one from last time and it's almost unwearable!

I will repeat here something that I posted back in February, the last time the topic of the World Baseball Classic came up.

Great Britain should go back to the original hat that it announced, but never used.

Great-Britain-Baseball.jpg?zoom=1.5&resi

(By the way, I just noticed that the Union flag on that hat is wrong!  The diagonals in the uppper-left and lower-right quadrants are correct.  But the other two quadrants are wrong: the thin red stripe should be offset in a counter-clockwise direction.  One could be forgiven for using this flag error as a basis for doubting the authenticity of this cap.  But I am sure that I saw it many times in official listings.  And here is that cap -- with a correct flag -- for sale on eBay. (But the picture is not as nice.))

But this is the cap that Great Britain actually wear:

There is really no excuse for this.  That is not a design.

Likewise, Italy's hat is crap.  I bought one just to have it, even though the "design" -- a block letter I -- is utterly uninspired.  They should have used the letter I from the "Italia" wordmark.

The best hat is China's.

Close behind are those of Mexico and Venezuela.

These teams also have the best uniforms (with the exception of those side panels).

Israel's jerseys for the qualifier have really taken a huge leap forward and are putting them in the race for best WBC jersey. These are beautiful and also don't just look like some of the generic font jerseys that several teams have used in the qualifiers. Like I'm pretty positive Great Britain and Pakistan have the exact same white letters just on different colored jerseys. Anyone agree or disagree?

Looks like Great Britain is using a new cap design for the qualifiers that begin tomorrow. I guess it's up for debate but I think they're better than the ones they used in 2012 although not as good as the unused version posted above. I never liked the large italics almost futuristic swoosh of the 2012 cap. Anyways, here's the 2016 version...

As Graham Chapman would say: what's all this, then?

Why is this team so uncreative?  There are many ways to interlock a G and B. It's also possible to present these letters next to one another in such a stylised way as to evoke the look of the Union Jack (OK, the "Union flag" if we're being precise).

Just a terrible job on this hat, with absolutely no thought or effort put into it.

Here's what the U.S. should be wearing:

US Tour Of Japan 1934 Vintage Ballcap

That's the cap of a 1934 barnstorming team of American Leaguers that visited Japan, currently available from Ebbets Field Flannels.

Someone made a concept that updated this logo a year or two ago. Can't recall who it was, but it looked pretty good. Might have been BMac.

Just saw the USA hat at lids in person...looks like bill is now red.

Oh, and all the flag patches for the hats are the shiny material like the new patches, not stiched.

According to USA Baseball, the red bill version is the alt.  They should still have the all navy version as well.  Lids has the navy one for sale online.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

I saw a few of those today at a different Lids. I think they're old stock though. The newer hats all have the rubber flag, the older ones have the stitched flag.

Passed by a Lids last night and saw they had 5 WBC caps for 2017 and there were some changes...

-Mexico stayed the same.

-USA was navy with a red bill. I seem to remember them either having a navy cap or a red cap but not a 2 tone cap, I could be wrong.

-Dominican Republic now had a red crown with a blue bill and the R was white the D was blue. Looked nice.

-Puerto Rico had a blue crown with a red bill.

-Venezuela seems to have dropped the maroon color scheme and gone to the traditional colors of their flag. The crown was blue the bill was red the V logo was yellow with a red outline. Didn't look bad but a bit busy and could take getting used to. The maroon was nice but I guess them now using their exact flag colors is nice to see. Does anyone know why Venezuela has always used maroon before?

All the caps had the glossy plastic looking chroma flex flag patch on the right side and the New Era logo on the other side.

It looks like they are going with grey under-brims this year!!

I didn't see this until now, but ehhhh. That's a deal-breaker for me. I can't stand grey underbrims. They've always looked cheap to me and stick out like a sore thumb.
