Too bad they're at Goodyear and Peoria instead of Phoenix. They all look good but they all look the same. It reminds me of NFL Europe.

A bunch of the pool C/D teams (Jalisco and Miami) played exhibition games before they started.

So do we get college credits for reading this?

Yes, but they're not transferable out of the CCSLC system.

If team Israel had qualified and reached the point they did with home grown players then it would be a sporting achievement for Israel. All of the countries you mention really don't care whatsoever about baseball. Israel is more interested in soccer, so are both of the other countries. The thing is though, this competition has no legitimacy when a few teams restrict who they can choose while the others pick willy nilly whatever players they can get away with claiming as their own.

I have some people I know in Israel who tell me the country really isn't paying attention or those who are view it as a Jewish achievement rather than their own achievement as a country.

Eh.  Sounds like it's a person-to-person thing.  Some Israelis care.  Some don't.  A person in Texas or Wisconsin can talk about how baseball is a dead niche sport.  A person in Massachusettes or New York will disagree.

You're picking and choosing what you want to allow rather than just properly defining it. This is supposed to be a substitute for the Olympic games but follows none of the logic that the Olympic games does.

So you'd rather have the a system where Koreans can be scooped up by a Russian team and moved just to win medals?

What you are describing isn't national representation, it's just teams made up of distant relatives. By that logic both Taipei and China should be playing on a single team.

Y... you realize how insane that is, right?  The only reason there even is a "Chinese Taipei" team is because if not, China would throw a hissy fit, take their ball, and go home.  But considering they're both Chinese, I'd see no problem with them competing together as "China" as opposed to the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China.

On the uniform/logo front, Israel's uniforms have looked a little... creamy to me.  Is that the uniform, or just the Tokyo Dome lights?

Also, I think I figured out why Japan looks so... off to me.  There's no red.  I know that red is more important and iconic to the Chinese, but it's also been an important part of Japanese sporting identity.

Even the traditionally blue soccer team often includes a splash of red and has a red stripe down the center of their crest.

And it's been a part of their WBC look their entire existence.

It would be like Venezuela throwing maroon away.

Although I must say that those uniforms ARE objectively good looking.  Can't we have Colombia look like that and put Venezuela back in maroon?  They have the same flag colors.

With Venezuela,  I think that's why we're seeing this. The presidents literally wrap themselvesin the flag by wearing tracksuits and such so for a competition trying to be as faux patriotic as possible they probably thought, "Why not try it out on the baseball team?"

Because of New Era's deal where they shove their logo on the left side of the caps, this forced a change where the country flag is now found on the right side.  By comparison, here is 2013.

Also, I bought two Italy caps this year, one regular, one low brim.  While the flag is stitched on the right side on the regular cap, the low brim instead uses a glued on plastic (?) logo.  Maybe it's cheaper for them to use the glued logo, but I don't care for them.  The Marlins' All Star Logo and Mariners' 40th Anniversary logo are also glued on to the caps.  Give me the stitched logo any day, but if that's an unpopular opinion so be it.

Yeah, but at the expense of your traditional identity?  That's like Argentina throwing away their sky blue and white stripes for sky blue with one white stripe down the center and a sun on the chest.

I don't agree with it, it's just the only thing that seems to explain the move.

Sewn patch is from October and he WBC qualifying tournament. The "chromaflex" is from the actual WBC event. You may have purchased old stock too- I don't remember if they "remade" caps for the qualifier or just took some out of inventory.

Also, low brim isn't the correct term, at low profile. The shape of the crown was changed so it doesn't sit high like Elmer Fudd, not the brim.

Old embroidered patches used to be embroidered and then glued on, and would come off easily. I have many caps I've had to reattach or outright purchase new caps to apply the patches too. They also wouldn't be very receptive to detailed embroidery like faces or letters.

The current chromaflex patches are perfect in that regard, the Piazza patch from last July looks amazing and even has the drop shadow on the number and details in his face that do not look jumbled. Griffeys look amazing,

as does David Ortiz' and Randy Johnsons.

while they do come off- it flexes much more then the embroidered patches and for me haven't come off easily or even peeled easily.

China's old English look always bugs me.

I'd say that China have the best cap in the tournament.

And the jersey wordmark is gorgeous; the only one close to as good is Japan's.  China's jerseys put to shame the jerseys of the U.S. and Puerto Rico (to name just two which should be much better).

For what it's worth, the Italy patch is sewn on, not glued.  I get the chromaflex allows more detail; it just seems more likely to peel off, but I'm likely wrong.  Anyway. thanks for your response.

In a vacuum, it's a great look.  It's just a weird fit for China.  It would fit better for a European team, especially Great Britain.  Why doesn't China have a paint stroke C in the style of the 2008 Olympics type?  That would fit so much more.
