Don't want to beat a dead horse here but the Cardinals look great in their proper road uniforms with the blue caps and belts on the road against the Nationals. I wish they would wear them full time again.

On the subject of the blue caps and ball caps in general, I hate that the NE logo is on the hats, but if it had to be there I wish it could be a little more subtle. A contrasting team color wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb ( but that's the idea, I guess).

That's how it is on a great deal of teams' caps. Several examples:

And for the caps where the NE logo is white, white is a team color that appears on those caps.

Oh thanks for the info, I've only really seen the cardinals play so far this year and the cubs, reds, and nats all have white logos I think.

The examples you posted are less offensive, I wish if the logos have to be there, they were all like that

Couldn't agree more re: the Cardinals' away blue caps and belts. The red caps and belts just do not look right to me on the road, after years of them wearing blue. And the blue cap is a thing of beauty anyway.

I think the best "policy" for the New Era logo, if it has to exist, is for the logo to match the primary color of the monogram on the front of the cap. So, for instance, on the Cards' red caps, it'd be white (since the StL is primarily white), while on the Cards' blue caps, it'd be red. Having a New Era logo that doesn't match the primary color of the monogram is just jarring. For teams that wear logos on their caps, use the primary color of the logo.

A better policy is for it to be the non-white color of a team's monogram, if available.. A navy logo on the cards' red cap would not be more jarring than the white.. It should never be white except for cases like the Yankees, Dodgers, and Tigers' home cap

I've said it before, but I think it bears repeating. The Cardinals' blue caps need a red bill:

Not only is it a tribute to the 1940-55 teams that wore a similar hat, but it also adds another punch of color to the road set that's missing on the all-navy caps and too abundant with the the red hats/bills.

I dislike the notion that teams have to "darken" their uniform elements for road use. It works for some (Cardinals with red bills and the Orioles), but teams like the Braves, A's, Nationals, would all look better if they wore their home hats on the road.

Ideally this would be the Cardinals primary cap for home and road. If they must keep a red cap, I'd prefer it was the red bird-on-bat cap that has been the bp cap for the last two years. Maybe make this the Sunday or Saturday home cap?IMG_0647.JPG.174e3233301b579e6b44c246860592fa.JPG

Cubs gold uniforms look decent. From the front, very subtle. Gold numbers jump out at you a bit.

Side note- how do you think new players to the 2017 Cubs squad feel about wearing a World Series champions uniform that they had no part in earning? Probably an awkward situation.

Not really a fan. They were inoffensive, but almost TOO under done. The blue jersey would've been better I think.

This might be the best approach of all. I really like the blue cap with blue bill that they wear now, but the cap with the red bill strikes a perfect color balance, especially given the red undershirts and socks. It would allow them to remain a red-first team both home and road, with a strong dash of blue. And I think that hat would pair better with the gray jersey than the red cap does.

Navy jersey with red cap for the first time.

Bleh. I hate how the red cap look with the blue jersey.

As a general rule, the jersey should never be darker than the cap. Not sure I can think of a single example of it looking good. The cap should ultimately be the darkest "primary" element of the uniform - it generally doesn't look good when the cap is lighter than the jersey, undershirt, wordmark, socks, etc.

White jerseys are lighter than all caps..

No.

Other than one or two throwback games, the Cubs haven't worn blue at home since the Ricketts family bought the team. For them to raise the banner in anything other than white uniforms with blue pinstripes would have been wrong.

Just as it should be.

Sorry, had a typo - I meant to say that the jersey should never be darker than the cap.

That's funny -  I read it (originally) entirely the way you MEANT to say it.

It's where I sit.

Yeah, I had to re-read it two or three times to catch that mistake.

Guess that's what I get for trying to scratch out posts about baseball uniforms in the middle of a mindnumbing meeting. ;)
