Thoughts on the special events stuff... there's some good some bad some great some horrible...

Mothers day and Fathers day for a whole weekend is overboard but the designs aren't horrible and are better than last year's. I like the two tone bills and caps. These are probably as good as they'll get. The socks? Please kill me. The solid pink or blue socks were good last year but I know Stance's sole purpose is too make things as garish and gaudy for us as ever so they couldn't even like pink or blue socks alone.

Memorial Days cap are excellent. They look like military helmets and it's better than the complete camo look. Very green all over understandably but that's better than the brown or all camo look. They might not look so sharp on the field but the caps are very cool.

4th of July is still a bit out there but the navy caps are my favorite 4th of July caps ever. I love the two tone bills and caps. They're not as drastic as the solid color caps from the past. They look like the Team USA WBC caps and the liquid chrome is actually perfect for these caps and they look great all around. Not a fan of the red crown caps but I guess there's nothing wrong with them, I just think the navy ones look best. With that said, a lot of these will look horrendous on the field clashing with the uniforms. But again like the memorial day caps, these are very cool on their own.

The ASG jerseys are wonderful! Very Miami Marlins without being overboard, the wordmark are solid. I love love love that they used the Marlins unique shade of blue which most of us want used more so it's refreshing to see it here. This is how you use the Marlins vibrant color scheme. I actually expect these to sell very well. For all the talk about last year's brown and yellow old school Padres ASG jerseys, I felt like that catered to a specific type of fan and I couldn't imagine many fans of other teams buying their teams jersey in brown and yellow. But these Marlins ones to me are unique vibrant and energetic and I feel like they're more likely to have casual fans say "hey that looks cool I want that."

The HR derby caps, I love the simple black caps with orange logos, nothing wrong there. The floral pattern underbrim and socks will make me poke my eyes out with a broomstick. Chris Creamer said the pattern is very Miami Marlins. Tell me where the Marlins use this gaudy garbage on their uniforms? The Marlins imply a strong use of colors but there isn't this trash bag full of colors anywhere on them but suddenly it's on these socks and caps. Also the lightweight material I'm skeptical of. Maybe it's nice but visually it makes it look like a mesh trucker cap and I'm not so sure about that. Also, one video I saw said the lightweight material is to combat the hot Miami weather, which is nice in theory but the ASG is being held in an air conditioned retractable roof ballpark so that thought goes right out the window.

Asg jerseys are fine. Patches are fine, don't mess with the rest of the uniforms and especially the wordmarks.

Lastly the worst of the bunch the ASG caps. Horrible. What does this have to do with Miami and the Marlins? Nothing. Why gold? The ASG isn't a championship game. The star eyelets are as bad as they were last year. I'm sure some teams caps will look nice in gold but as a whole on the field and on tv these are not gonna look good. The worst part is that these are pretty much all worse than the regular caps so players will look worse in the ASG than they do in the regular season. The ASG should look traditional with the exception of sleeve patches and I guess some stars somewhere could be fine if they were non intrusive.

Something that's bugging me big time.... The ASG patch this season is beautiful. The Marlins have it on their caps all season. Part of its beauty comes from it's colors. But when the ASG gets played, the players will be wearing patches on their caps that have the ASG logo without all the colors so what's the point???

Overall, one thing I'm noticing with these looks is that a lot of these things are great in a vacuum, so basically they're perfect for fans to buy because they'll look cool when you're wearing them on the weekend just hanging out. So what they've basically made here is excellent fan fashion caps and jerseys but are forcing the players to wear them on the field where they'll actually look pretty bad overall. So it's clear to see what this is all about and I don't have to explain that to anyone here because we all know it. These are for the fans and not the players.

So bottom line...amazing new merchandise, great job designing these but a horrible job actually respecting if the players will actually look good.

Overall, I think the holiday uniforms are all solid, though I'm hesitant to them being used over entire weekends.

I especially love all of the Home Run Derby stuff, even the socks and underbrim. The first thing I thought of when I saw the caps is that they look like fish scales, which I guess wasn't the intention but is an interesting side note.

The thing I'm mainly disappointed in is that the All-Star Game stuff is gold again. I liked where they were going with the first two designs in Minnesota and Cincinnati that were inspired by the host team. These to me feel kind of uninspired, especially with good ideas like Jesse Alkire's neon light logos or something like that. I'd even be fine if they incorporated that floral pattern somehow, though I don't know how popular that is.

For the first time since 2009 the Brewers are wearing their navy Brewers alternative on the road plus the blue jays new white panel hat tonight

So the Brewers wear Milwaukee at home and Brewers on the road.  To quote a professor of mine from long ago 'da hell?'

It's where I sit.

Quite a reading in there. As a cap collector the Mother's Day and Father's Day cap are much better than last year but they both can go to hell unless for some reason are made in the U.S. with U.S. material and in clearance.

Love the Memorial day all green and camo brim. The 5 stars is a nice touch. I'm highly considering getting it .

HR Derby is interesting.Giants and Marlins both look good in it.

ASG is a disaster , same 70's pimp look as last year.

Stars & Stripes I'll consider them once they hit clearance.

Jays sporting white panel caps AND helmets. Look great

Yeah those are incredible. Those should be the primary home look.

So now the question is, do the Indians end up using the red hat at all this year?

I would hope so. It's probably the best selling hat they have, which is why they tried to force it with the navy alts.

Hopefully they can add another alternate uniform next season to use it with. Maybe a red jersey or something it fits better with.

Is it their best selling? I don't live in Cleveland anymore, but I rarely saw people out and about wearing the red hat. And I've yet to meet anyone in person that has said they like that hat.

Went to the Jays' home opener last night.

The white panel hats with the white home uniforms was such a welcome surprise.  It's what should have been worn every time they went with the white panels the last two seasons.

Then Travis came up to bat, and I almost fainted.  The white panel helmets are absolutely perfect.  I couldn't be happier and I really hope this becomes the full time home uniform going forward.

This goes with what I've been saying I'm hoping is their new trend. Maybe, just maybe, the navy and yellow updated ball in glove uniforms that says Milwaukee will only be worn for Sunday home games and the rest of the time, except for Friday home games, will be the navy and metallic gold M wheat uniforms. So with yesterday not being a Sunday home game and them wanting to wear an alt top they wore the navy and metallic gold Brewers top. Fingers crossed that this is the route they're taking from here on out. Without arguing which look is better, the metallic gold wheat uniforms are supposed to be the primary look so they should be worn almost all the time. The royal blue retro look can stay Friday home games only and the navy retro look can now just be for Sunday home games only. Consistency please!

It seems like I always see a lot of red, both on TV and at games. But I could be wrong.

I know I'm in the minority but I kind of like the red hats with navy jersey. It's something different. Since the names, numbers, script, socks and undershirts are red, it all ties together.

Cubs gold uniforms look decent. From the front, very subtle. Gold numbers jump out at you a bit.

Side note- how do you think new players to the 2017 Cubs squad feel about wearing a World Series champions uniform that they had no part in earning? Probably an awkward situation.

21/25 on the roster were Cubs last year, and Uehara, Wade Davis and Jay all have 4+ playoff seasons and their own rings. Brett Anderson may have felt left out, though.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle Dexter Fowler when he returns with the Cards.
