Totally.  I really dig that wordmark overall.

I'd mentioned earlier that I don't like the M at all in that Marlins concept.  It looks good as part of a wordmark, but with the Marlin, and especially on the cap, it has way too much negative space in the middle.  Their recoloring of the old marlin is beautiful, though, so I decided to take a look at how it would look with the current M.  Couldn't decide whether the head or the tail looked better in the front, so I made both.  I think it looks rather stunning.

So, I did kinda dig the tail out version a bit more, and mocked up a bunch of different possibilities for this logo on a cap, including the old color combination, teal and orange, and teal and blue and orange.

EDIT: Just wanted to make sure I noted that the gray used here is lighter than the style guide's silver, but I went lighter to emulate how their silver stitching looks under light, as it has a sheen that's not represented by the incredibly dark gray.

Love these. After seeing the blue versions with the current Marlin earlier in the thread, I went to look at the old Florida cap to see if that Marlin could work. You show that it does. I like the one on the left better... and would prefer teal and black but could live with the blue as primary with current colors.

Tim Raines wore an Expos cap in the celebrity softball game but not a regular one it was one of the 2017 home run derby style caps with the black honey comb mesh, the floral pattern underbrim, and the logo in Marlins orange black and white.

Found that very interesting that they went and basically made him a custom version of that cap as an Expos version of that cap is not available to purchase. It might literally be the only one ever made.

Also they didn't "need" to make the cap because while he's going in the hall of fame as an Expo, Raines did play for the Marlins for a season and with this game being in Miami he could have worn a Marlins cap as Andre Dawson was also in this game and he was wearing a Marlins cap and not an Expos or Cubs cap. The other Marlins legends in this game were Livan Hernandez Al Leiter Benito Santiago and Pudge Rodriguez and all wore a Marlins cap except for Pudge who wore a Rangers cap (most likely just because he was on the American league team for this game)

I read that if Loria sells this year, he owes money to the city of Miami for the increased value the stadium financing brought.  If he sells next year, he's off the hook for that.

He's selling this year and won't wait until next year. His purpose for selling isn't to make a profit, though he undoubtedly will. He's getting up in age and no longer desires team ownership and the death of Jose Fernandez was a blow to him on a personal level, he thought of Jose as his son. The way the financial penalty for him selling goes, the percentage of the sale that he owes goes down annually until it hits zero in 2018. So while he will have to pay a penalty, 2017 is the lowest the penalty will ever get before it's gone completely. Therefore he's got no problem with paying it now to get out a year earlier. The penalty isn't as high as it was 5 years ago is my point so that's not really an issue anymore.

Just providing some facts because I've been very diligent with following the details of the Marlins including this team sale and when you learn so much it's amazing how many false or misinformed stories can get put out these days. Fact checking seems to be a thing of the past. Anyone can write an article these days.

Second row, third from the left (white M, orange outline, blue background). That right there represents perfectly how strong that M logo would be with just a single outline. They really don't need anything more. The shape of that letter mark alone is strong enough to stand out from any other team in any sport. They could even ditch the Marlin altogether and it'd be great (They don't need to, though, as it's simplicity really works with that look).

Honestly? The current Marlins logo was basically a total joke when it first came out, but I've really kinda warmed up to it. The font they use is just so so good, and it's really surprising to me how striking it is now that the whole set has been given time to process. They could stand to ditch the black and simplify things a bit, but the foundation is really solid.

#FakeNews?

Will need to see your sources, then.  We know enough about Loria to known that he's a total scumbag, like Dan Snyder-level creepy, and the sport will be better off without him.

If u sign a 4 year contract for something and decide to bail on the last 3 years, you're the one in the wrong. Just because it's against Jeffrey Loria and the Marlins doesn't change that fact.

Reading the story here, the Marlins were not living up to what they told the fans that they would receive. I'm sure there's tons more information that isn't included. Once, a side violates an agreement legally it gets muddy. When your going after a fan that lives part time there and you won't  honor anything you promised, it's not a surprise he balked.

Marlins did not hold up their end of the bargain by a long shot. You cant control winning but things like parking, vip entrance and all that comes with paying 29k should be held up. I would've done the same thing. What really felt scummy to me was going after the guy while in the hospital, really?

I wonder if it's a 2017 Hall of Fame class thing since Pudge isn't wearing a Marlins hat and Dawson is.

Last night Pitbull was wearing the women's version of the home run derby jersey... low cut V shaped neckline, shorter sleeves, form fitting torso cut, smaller wordmark... He looked ridiculous... How did no one point this out to him?

I notice that Raines' jersey was one of the few (maybe just Jessica Mendoza?) that did not have a team logo on the sleeve.  I'm not really sure why he got a cap and not a sleeve logo.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

The sleeve logos were recolored versions of the team logos in Marlins orange and blue, I honestly think an Expos version just doesn't exist period. Which was kinda my point with his Expos home run derby cap, it may literally be the only one ever made, which is pretty cool.

I think it was the look he wanted, but it also made him look like someone grandpa on stage.

I didn't notice until seeing this picture, but I wasn't really paying attention.  Looking at it now, the most prominent clue to me is the... ample extra space upstairs that looks filled due to the slimmer waist constricting, which gives him a... not flattering shape for a guy.

They were discussing this on the Dan Le Batard Show this morning, and one guy brought up that since the more slim jersey fit the look he was going for more, he likely requested a tighter jersey after trying on the men's, not caring if it was a women's and possibly thinking no one would notice.

That's the point of throwing sixteen versions up.  See what sticks and what people like best.  I agree with you that the M on its own is appealing and unique.  It feels a little naked on its own, but I think that's just the history of the Marlins clouding my mind.  They've always had a fish and always had a taller logo on their caps because of it.

Plus the SUPER OBVIOUS tell that it's a woman's jersey: the buttons are reversed.  Women's clothing buttons right over left.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!
