Congrats Wrigley Field on hosting your first World Series game in 25,950 days.

Also, Darren Rovell posted an image of an 83-year old Cubs fan who was at the last Wrigley Field World Series Game back on October 10th, 1945.

There sure are many cubs fans coming out of hiding now, huh??

Looks like everyone's a cubs fan for this week at least.

Oh blow it right out of your ass.

Didn't you hear? Everyone has to root for the Cubs. If you don't, you're just not a fan of baseball.

You understand that with posts like that people around here are going to hate Cleveland fans more, yes?

Right, because the Indians have been packing in 40,000 a game since 1948. Newsflash, genius, people get excited when their team makes the World Series. Period. Same thing happened here in 1995 or in Arlington, Texas in 2010-11 or in Detroit in both '84 and '06. I could go on, but I think you get the point. Add in the fact that it's the first time this particular team has been to the World Series since 1948 and of course people are coming out of the woodwork. There's nothing new going on here.

People hate us already? Wow, that didn't take long. B)

Anyway, he's not an Indians fan. He's just a contrarian. We're not responsible for people like him.

The list of teams you can root for to be an awful person:

  1. whoever Brian in Boston roots for (kidding, he's the best)
  2. St. Louis Cardinals
  3. Penn State Nittany Lions

* - the above portion of this post was in fact a joke, and anyone should totally be allowed to root for whoever they want without being judged, mostly

I don't hate Cleveland fans at all.  I think Cleveland/Chicago folks have been really cool to each other this series, but the Cavs avatar threw me off.

I guess it should be flattering that suddenly the Cubs, who haven't even won a damn thing yet, are despised so hard.

Really? For so long sports media gave the cubs the image of lovable losers now everyone hates them?

Same here. Why fans of other teams have to jump in with their idiotic "hate" of two teams they gave exactly zero :censored:s about three weeks ago is beyond me. People who aren't Cubs or Indians fans should just get the hell out of our way and let us enjoy this.

 - quietly exits room after unintentionally throwing another log on the fire. -

Ooops, I was referring to "Thomas" the guy you told to blow it out his ass. I'm guessing/hoping the Cavs Av guy was just frustrated because he knows everyone outside Ohio is probably rooting for the Cubs.

WHOOP WHOOP!!!  We didn't make the list for the first time in 18 years!

I think the hate is coming from a place of people already saw the signs that led to the Red Sox fans being insuffrable (they always were, other people just didn't realize that), St. Louis calling itself the mecca of baseball, and the Giants thinking they'd win every two years for eternity.  They don't wanna see the Cubs go the same way, but are expecting it now, and pre-emptively starting the hate in a self-fulfilling prophecy.

That's just what winning does. I used to go to at least a dozen Giants games a season. Now after the three titles? I can barely afford two. It's just the nature of success. Everyone wants a piece. It's actually a side effect I never really anticipated (at least the severity of it).

A lot of people come out of the woodwork who don't know how to act and everyone thinks that's how you all just act.  Admittedly, out of the three examples I mentioned, the Giants' marketing was being the loudest, the Cardinals' claims are innocuous and misguided at most, and the Sox... well that's wholely true.  :P

I'm glad you said this because I didn't want to be the guy to point out that the Indians finished 28th in attendance this season.

This is what I love about baseball. That is awesome.

Someone in Chicago with a ticket to this game will miss the game tonight because they went too hard in the paint at the bars today. I probably won't be able to prove it, but I guarantee it will happen to someone.
