Lot of people outraged this morning after Jake Arrieta tweeted openly about confirming his support for Trump.

So here's the tweet. Arrieta's statement came off as more anti-Hollywood than pro-Trump. But yea, it's pretty clear who's side he was on yesterday.

That being said, I am definitely NOT a fan of star athletes endorsing political candidates. LeBron stumping for Hillary.. Peyton and the Bushes chumming it up.. That stuff is an absolute turn-off for me.

That's ironic speaking you have a "celebrity" telling other "celebrities" to keep their mouths shut when in comes to politics.

Agreed though. They all need to stop endorsing candidates.

It's a harsh reminder that athletes are human beings too, and just because they are heroes on the field doesn't mean they're going to check every box as a person. They are an elite bunch who care very much about their finances, and if a candidate says they'll cut taxes on the wealthy, there's a lot of Big 4 athletes who may vote on that issue singularly.  If they're intelligent, however, they won't tweet about it.  Maybe Jake should've just stayed mum.

Then why aren't people outraged that Lebron and other athletes openly supported Hillary?

Celebs think they can convince people to vote for the person they support. Sure there are sheep that listen,  but most people do not give a :censored: about Bruce Springsteen, Lady gaga and katy perry´s opinion on who you should vote for.

They are millionaires who live in mansions, they don't know crap about the average citizen, and how his or her day is.

You've never noticed the outrage  over left-wing celebs?

I really hope that porcello doesn't get the cy young nothing against the sox or porcello I just feel that basing a great pitcher on wins is stupid since it is dependent on how the rest of the team plays the pitcher could give up 5 runs and still win or the pitcher could pitch a shutout for most of the game and still lose wins as a stat is useless like qb wins in football

It's not like his ERA was so egreiously high.

At 3.15, his ERA was #5 in the AL and only 1/10th of a point behind Kluber.

Well, Lebron knows about being black, and probably knows a little bit about inequality, and probably has a lot of opportunities to volunteer with underprivileged children and/or organizations that support them.  You're not wrong about them being out of touch with average poeple in many ways, but in at least some ways, they could actually be closer to the struggle.

I think there is a little bit of outrage when celebrities endorse democratic candidates, but it's so normal that it's just wallpaper at this point.  The other thing is that (just my opinion) endorsing this particular candidate means that you are endorsing the denial of rights to some of your ticket-buying customers, while endorsing the other is much less harmful (despite obvious differences in philosophy - nobody would lose any rights or have a worse quality of life - again, just my opinion.)

On one hand, celebrities have a platform, and one could argue that if you have that platform, it's your responsibility to use it to make the world better, however you choose to do that.  On the other hand, people like Lebron are employees of a company, and represent that company while they're on that platform.  I'm not sure if it's compliant with the CBA, but if I was the owner and it was allowed, I'd request my players not disclose any potentially polarizing beliefs, because it would theoretically alienate a piece of the fanbase and result in revenue loss.

I'm waiting for the day that some famous singer openly tells one group that he/she doesn't want them as fans and tells them not to come to their shows.  That would be taking it over the line, no matter how strongly they feel.

Also, Popovich's rant the other night was IMO spot on, and while I still don't think that it's good business to publicize your political views, I'm proud of him for having the balls to say that while in Texas.  It won me over as a fan (though that contributes $0 to their bottom line.)

The closest I have ever heard of is maybe not quite "one group" but did go in that direction.  See the 7th quote below.

But I appreciate that you don't think media complains about it.  It indicates that you probably don't watch Fox News. ?

They're both covered round the clock by specialized networks trying to find the most sensationalist spin they can to up the ratings. When did they ever not go hand-in-hand? Just look at outlets like Deadspin who tries to have their cake and eat it too much to the chagrin of people who haven't figured it out yet that that's their angle.
