Matt Wieters had a fantastic year all around, including a super hot stretch towards the end. He's going to get a mega contract somewhere else, bc we can only keep (at absolute most) two of Wieters, Britton, and Machado. And I'd much rather have Britton and Machado.

Honestly? I don't think he's worth the massive haul that would have to come to get him.

I'd love our resident White Sox fans give their take on the Renteria hire.  I liked him when he was with the Cubs, but this all feels, to me, like the wrong hire at the wrong time for a franchise headed in the wrong direction.

Not a Sox fan (SPOILER ALERT), but this hire doesn't amount to a hill of beans if Renteria can't hire his own guys and has to retain Reinsdorf/Williams spies like Don Cooper.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Which is exactly what's going to happen.  Renteria "knows the system" and I'm guessing he wouldn't be sticking around if they told him they were going to use him as their Dale Sveum, where he gets a cup of managerial coffee while they burn down the house for a few years.

It smacks to me as White Sox kicking of the can.  Franchise is definitely in a quandary, and it's a shame because I want them to succeed, even as a Cubs fan.

Tony LaRussa is out too. It's nice to see that teams are finally pushing the "anti-analytics" guys out of the sport.

Hopefully Paul "Wasting Outs On the Basepaths" Molitor will follow.

Not to mention I honestly believe that Caleb Joseph can be a quality starting catcher in 2017.

Still the best defensive catcher the Orioles had/have, and his offense will improve with consistent at bats.

Actually he is no longer in charge of the team. But still with the team. Radio station Arizona Sports 98.7 are saying that he could be penciled in as the Manager next year. But that is if he stays

What do the O's do with Buck Showalter after not using Britton? Because if Britton isn't hurt... that's awful, awful management.

You keep him around because he's the only decent manager we've had since the 1990's

This was my thought as well. He could be gone in a lot of cases, but who could Baltimore even bring in as an upgrade?

It was definitely questionable. Definitely. But Buck is known for being unconventional. Is that an excuse in this type of do or die situation? Absolutely not. As I said in a different thread, it wasn't so much that Britton wasn't brought on, it was that Ubaldo was. Anybody but him in that situation.

Showalter is a weird manager. He's one of those kind of guys who can turn around a struggling team and set them up very nicely for a post season run, but he's about the last guy I'd want managing my team in the playoffs. He's already managed two teams who have won World Series titles the year after he was fired (maybe three? I'm not sure), so Orioles fans should be confident that their team will probably lift the trophy the year after they can him.
