Because it looks cheap, and is kinda dumb. Why not just have a sticker with a transparent background?

It's like a gum ball helmet... only bigger.

It does look cheap.

On the other hand, look at how long it took for it to become common knowledge among this group.  So it's kinda hard to call it a big deal...even if many of us cannot "un-see" it.

My girlfriend is a pretty die hard Cowboys fan. The first time I ever watched a game with her, I pointed out the differences in their shades of blue and silver. She still hates me for pointing that out, and you can tell it legitimately bugs her when she watches games now.

Then what must she think of the labelmaker helmet names?

The bumper is nice.  But the rest of the helmet is a mess.

Take note, Jaguars. THIS is how you mix matte black and metallic gold!

a mess? how could a Saints design be any simpler?

Simple can be messy.  Putting the gold and white stripes next to each other is a bad choice, especially against a black shell.

But maybe "ugly" is a better word. ;)

Yes, ugly says it better than messy... a single gold stripe might work, but not that combination.

I would go with a gold center stripe and white outer stripes to mimic the logo (and the '69 preseason helmet)...

Purdue did this in 1990 (maybe 1991) with the regular gloss finish that was typical. Looked pretty good.

I simply can't imagine a team from the gaudiest city on Earth not rocking gold shells... if anything, they should ramp up the saturation to match the numbers on their Color Rush gear

Which took the white outside stripes from the helmet worn for part of 1968. Always found this pic amusing because the right tackle's pants stripes don't match everyone else's, and, well, because they made that change with the stripes and then abandoned it before the season even ended. Or course, this was the team that showed up for its first training camp practice with no footballs because someone forgot to bring them out.
