This jersey has pretty much the exact same problem the previous alt had. It's completely lacking one of their main colors. This would've been MUCH better off as a gold jersey with blue accents. 

 

Or, even better, just put Oakland on it. It'd be a decent way to give that city a bit of a shoutout (and Oakland really kinda needs it) before they leave for across the bay.

I think one of the most improved alt jerseys is Orlando's.  Blue pinstripes instead of white, and the neck area was cleaned up substantially. Need to see more, but so far so good.

Honestly can't believe how badly Portland botched their red jersey, that looks awful. Simply inverting the colors of their black jersey would have done the trick.

 

I don't get the point of the Knicks jersey. It's alright in a vacuum, but it seems to me like a slightly crappier version of the standard white jersey.

 

The Cavaliers black alternate is so bad, I'd venture to say it's an enormous downgrade from the black sleeved jersey they previously had, which of course was not very popular on here.

 

The Jazz concept posted in this thread is miles better than what they went with.

 

The Clippers new black alternate is a huge upgrade over last year's IMO. The red and blue on the old one got lost on the black, and all I saw from a distance was a white basketball outline over a number.

 

While I think the red Sixers alternate is pretty cool, the modern look of the Nike logo and the Stubhub patch really seem to clash with the script for me. Also, I think they could have done without the drop shadow on this one.

As a fan of a totally different team, I think it might be my favorite Jazz jersey. 

 

I'm pretty disappointed that the Grizzlies are still using the same Beale St Blue jerseys as before. It's neat that they kind of have the old Thrashers alt logo on the sides, but they're still the only Grizz set I don't care for at all. Pretend the numbers in the picture aren't the sweet split numbers we all loved, but the lame, boring, plain navy blue we all know and deal with.

So the Cavs have  tire tread pattern because of their Goodyear sponsorship.

 

This opens up a whole new can of worms where the entire jersey is one big ad!  This will spread to other teams.

I think it’s one of the United fonts, which at this point is this era’s version of Serpentine; default and overused.

Is this confirmed or just conjecture from sports design conspiracy theorists? Goodyear was announced as the Cavs’ advertiser on May 15, and it’s exceedingly rare to see a jersey going from design to unveil in four months, if it’s even ever happened in the merchandising era.

 

I suppose it’s plausible that the team knew what was coming and briefed a “Goodyear jersey” before making the Goodyear announcement official, but that would have likely been a year ago or more, a full 8+ months before announcing the advertiser, which seems like a stretch.

My preliminary thoughts on the entirely new designs -- subject to change once full and actual uniforms are released.

 

Nets - I really like these. The charcoal works well with their black and white scheme, and the simplicity is very on-brand.

 

Celtics - The trim needs white included for the sake of contrast, but BFBS in 2017 is just depressing. Their previous green alternates with black wordmarks, numerals, and trim were significantly better than this nonsense.

 

Cavaliers - Yikes. You would think Nike would want to outfit LeBron in something better than this mess that combines a round alternate logo, a linear mediocre font, and - oh yeah - a pattern reminiscent of if not directly alluding to tire treads. I was honestly expecting them to use the Goodyear jersey LeBron was spotted in not so long ago, which I would much prefer over this black alternate. At least the outright Goodyear one is a clean design otherwise, complete with on-brand details such as the trim pattern from the team's previous uniforms.

 

Nuggets - White on yellow does not look good without another color to create contrast, and the clashing wordmark and numeral fonts in this set are already well-documented. These are a few tweaks away from being very solid, though.

 

Pistons - We get it, a team from Detroit nicknamed the Pistons should have a chrome alternate. I do not disagree. But if you are going to do it, do it....and do it right. Light gray is not chrome. The team has nothing resembling automobiles in any of its logo suite nor branding. This is a disaster for multiple reasons.

 

Warriors - Still not sure if I like these or think they are stupid. I do not hate the black and slate look, but do not completely abandon the blue. Also, the 'The' script with the 'TOWN' block-ish font feels off. Also, I hate city nickname jerseys at least a little bit less than most people on here, but what is 'The Town'? Put 'OAKLAND' on there, and maybe just go full box-car jersey mode and throw the intricate numeral-inclusive graphic on the back and call it a day.

 

Rockets - This is somehow low-key one of the worst ones -- mainly because it actually could have been good. Maybe this is just a poor 2K rendering of an otherwise fine jersey, but I have my doubts. The charcoal is off-brand and blends too much with the black, I do not even want to know what is going on with those side panels, and what in the world is going on with all of the mismatching? Why is the collar trim a different color from the armhole trim? Why is the wordmark stroke a different color than the numeral stroke? Why is the Nike swoosh a different color than the wordmark and numerals? Find out next time on Dragonball Z...?

 

Pacers - This was about what I expected. I feel weird saying this, but for some reason this yellow jersey needs white....maybe keep it confined within the navy at all times, though. For now, it just looks like a practice jersey.

 

Clippers - Logos *clap* on *clap* jerseys *clap* instead *clap* of *clap* wordmarks *clap* are *clap* trash *clap*.

 

Timberwolves - Again, this is about what was expected. The oddly unnecessary design elements of this set are well-documented, but at least the "action green" here is fun.

 

Knicks - Incompetence in all things is what I have come to expect from a team owned by James Dolan, so this is actually very on-brand for the organization. Good work.

 

Thunder - I liked these until finding out the back contained a gradient, and upon further review of the 2K leak it almost looks like a patterned gradient. The font difference between the wordmark and numerals already irked me, but the color balance gave me reason for optimism. Oh well.

 

Sixers - The colors in the actual photos look incredible, but the wordmark's script font clashes too much with the numerals' block font. Just use the same block font from the wordmarks on the Association and Icon jerseys, switch it to 'SIXERS' like you wanted to, and you have an outstanding alternate.

 

Suns - It could use a little more purple, but at least all of the colors are included in some form. This is a nice looking jersey that will look even better as a full uniform in real life.

 

Trail Blazers - The 2K screenshot is not much to look at, but I have a feeling these will look much better in actuality. It feels a bit Color Rush-ish to me, lacking a bit of white for the sake of contrast, but I think it will grow on me.

 

Jazz - Logos still look terrible in place of wordmarks on jerseys, but at least this one fits well with the numerals. This is also a yellow uniform that could benefit from a bit of white to break up the saturation from all the color.

I'll come out and say it. Unpopular as it may be, I will probably be one of the only ones that rock the black Cavs jersey with no problem. I think it's a cool nod to Goodyear being from Akron and embracing a surrounding area. Just my two cents. Probably to most people wrong but whatever. We all have our own tastes.
