NBA Changes 2017-18

Recommended Posts

The Spurs bizzarely attempted to look more classic and old school by dropping the Eurostile they’ve had since the ABA and going generic block. It’s faux-retro and it’s bad, the Spurs previous uniforms managed to combine classic with the 70’s where the franchise has its origins, much like Eurostile does. This reeks of update for the sake of update

I'm surprised we haven't seen color on color yet.  All home teams have worn white so far.

Actually the Pacers and Kings both wore their “Icon” uniforms at home yesterday, but the road teams in those games (the Nets and Rockets) both wore white. In the Pacers’ game, it couldn’t have been color on color because the Nets’ black and dark grey uniforms obviously wouldn't have provided necessary contrast with the Pacers’ navy. The Rockets probably could’ve worn their red uniforms, and in fact they did just that last season against the Kings, who were in purple at home:

But, alas, the Rockets chose to wear white this time instead. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of color on color as the season progresses, and as the home teams start mixing it up a bit more.

You're right.  I was just scrolling through photos and didn't realize which team was the home team.  Looking forward to some more color on color games this year.

The drop shadow is definitely there still:E2931262-B368-4E31-84C3-1F326D36418A.thumb.jpeg.8e1ab0d8cf4eb53e4482ff6ff1e7d288.jpeg246623CF-A9DD-4A46-8F5B-76C62CD66A2F.thumb.jpeg.d6377391d453a684718d9eb2a11bb63f.jpeg

The fact that it’s come up like this is a good example of a design element that’s not executed very well. Some design elements are indeed meant to be subtle and discoverable, but this is meant to be seen, and it’s hard to see.

The Suns/Blazers game last night was a really nice looking matchup:

The Suns’ throwbacks looked really nice in action, and matched up incredibly well against the Blazers’ refreshed black uniforms. And as a Blazers fan, the result was pretty sweet tooB). Also, the Suns had special shooting shirts to go with their throwbacks:0D46E078-8DBD-45B6-A475-9A13FE2AE5B1.jpeg.3bb36a9da1cd1268ae7c5742752d9e10.jpegA1F2C015-12EF-4291-99AA-871B44401C66.jpeg.bb4d114d9f69e1252d34958878a489dd.jpeg

So Charlotte just put out their uniform schedule here. One thing worth note is that the undergarments are officially part of the uniform, and aren't attached to one particular set. If you check the teal set, for example, there are games with matching teal tights, but also games with white tights, but it doesn't look like the switching happens until December.

Any idea when we will see the “Statement” uni’s on court?

Nike seems to be doing a slow roll out of what's been made, so for the first month or so, we'll see each team's regular color and white (or icon and association for name sticklers), and get the statement uniforms around Thanksgiving.

K, so, I wasn't going to pick up a Warriors Nike jersey because there really isn't any difference, but MY GOODNESS their new alt is beautiful. The gold highlights in the numbers really add to the overall look.

We can infer from this that the "Community" jerseys will be released in the Christmas/New Year's time frame.

Why are the Hornets wearing their throwback only 3-4 times? That's incredibly disappointing. It's an 82 game season. Hell, the Warriors are gonna wear theirs a bunch so I don't know what the deal is here.

The Raptors and Thunder are both wearing their “Icon” uniforms in their respective home openers right now. The visiting teams in both matchups, the Bulls and Knicks, are both in white.

Nike's changes to the Raptors' uniforms just made them worse, and they weren't good to begin with.

Here’s how the Squarespace ad patch looks on all three of the Knicks jerseys that’ve been released so far:

Do we have any idea what their 4th jersey is?

Anyone know if the thunder plan on wearing the blue as their primary home unis?

Eh. They're fine, I guess. The Clips look has zero staying power; I can't imagine they'll still be using this logo in four years.
