Carrier Dome and the old Alamo Dome are excepted because they cut the stadium in half (or a third). It seems like last and this year look weird and different compared to previous years. Here's the 2003 final (to pick a random year): It's in a dome, but still looks normal. Is it because the players aren't on a platform? They used to put the basketball courts on one end zone of the domed stadia, then place temporary bleachers on one side of the court and use the rest of the permanent seats on that half of the venue as the rest of the capacity. Then someone had the idea of "Well, if we can sell 70,000 seats, let's just put the center court timeline on the 50-yard line", and they've been going with that model ever since. When I went to the open practice when the last Final Four was in Atlanta, it looked weird as hell to see the court in the middle. And the views aren't that great, even in the lower level. If they change the layout at Alamodome they'll have to move that scoreboatd though I believe it's supposed to be replaced during the upgrades. This is the sideline it sits above now.
