Good grief, that east region is a cluster:censored:. While it's pretty good to see Duke out early, I'm really not happy about Baylor lucking out and getting a pretty easy path to the Final Four. Hopefully South Carolina or Wisconsin take care of them.

I should know better to pick Cincinnati to go far and to pick against Xavier.

Xavier's 6th trip to the Sweet Sixteen since 2008. That's more than a lot of historically good major programs.

I think an upgrade is pretty much out of the question here. Football is what drives realignment and Gonzaga doesn't have a football program. There's only so much you can do with this school.

I like to think that they're happy where they are because the entire WCC has similar ideals (all the members are private schools with religious ties)

Yeah, there's no other non-football conferences out on the west coast that Gonzaga can join that are better than the WCC. They'd be a perfect fit for the Big East or the A-10 if they were located 2,000 miles to the east, but the travel schedule would be hell as it is. Seattle is more or less the most remote major city from the rest of the country, and virtually every single road trip would involve a cross country flight out east. Not really viable practically (even if it is financially).

We need some more non-football conferences across the entire country, with more flexible conference membership. Schools that sponsor FBS football can enter their football teams as football-only members in non-power 5 conferences, while still retaining full membership in a high major non-football conference. And perhaps power 5 schools that have middling basketball programs can enter their basketball teams in weaker basketball conferences (like if Alabama played basketball in a weaker conference, while Memphis could join the SEC as a basketball-only member).

There's creative solutions to this problem that would benefit college basketball while still allowing the Power 5 conferences to chase down more football money, but unfortunately only the latter is happening right now, to the detriment of the former.

Outside of a First Four loss to NC State in 2013, it seems like Xavier practically lives in the second weekend when they aren't a top 5 seed.

And amazing to think how much good fortune they have had- benefitting from the LeHigh/Georgia State upsets, getting the shakiest 3-6 seed combo this year.

Tonight.... my god, it seemed like everytime Xavier had a 'If we miss this, the game could get out of control the other way' they never missed.

They shot like 100 percent on WE CANNOT MISS THIS shots.

The guy I think about in spots like this Mick Cronin.

In his own city, he seems to always get outdone by Mack.

Xavier practically lives in the 2nd weekend while Cincinnati has made it past the first weekend FOUR times since the 1992 Final Four.

McCarthy is a Bearcats fan and this has to really sting.

The Bearcats have made two Sweet 16's this century while Xavier damn near lives there this decade.

Lol, nothing is ever better than watching U of A crash and burn in the tournament. Even better to see the ol sweatbag lose to his old squad.

LOL I'm not a Bearcats fan at all so no it doesn't sting. I like Xavier and I stayed up to a ridiculous hour* to watch them last night. I'm one of the few people in this town that roots for both teams, but mostly I don't pay any attention until this time of year. I picked UC to do what Xavier is doing because a Bearcat homer friend gave me bad intel. I wish UC would get on a roll like this because there are more Bearcats fans and it would be more fun around the city, but I can't not be happy for Xavier.

The craziest thing is one of Gonzaga or Xavier will finally get to a Final Four. It's the Cubs-Indians of Elite Eight matchups.

*it started at damn near 11 pm on the east coast. That's absurd.

Sean miller is definitely cursed. :censored:ing Xavier man, seemingly always in the sweet 16 (except for last year).

Mark Few has no excuses now. If he loses to Xavier now, Gonzaga is never going to the Final Four.

One of the following schools will play in the National Championship Game:

Gonzaga, Xavier, Wisconsin, Florida, South Carolina, Baylor.

Probably Baylor or Florida since sports always sucks.

While they've won the CWS two times, historically out of all Power 5 schools, is there any more "meh" ----> disappointing public university athletic program (especially the big two) than South Carolina?

I guess Rutgers, Texas Tech, possibly BC are in the running.

While they were a football independent inbetween the ACC and SEC membership, they only won the ACC once and never have won the SEC titke.
