Liga Ibérica de Fútbol/Futebol (Iberian Soccer League) (Madeira CF 8/22)

Let's start with a bit of mixing of real and alt history: during the mid 20th Century, Spain and Portugal were under the command of authoritarian regimes (Portugal since 1926 and Spain since 1939). Given these regimes were not only authoritarian but also Fascist-esque, people were ruled by very strict rules about the divertissement and leisure, including football/soccer.

The Spanish La Liga, which was cancelled in 1935/36 due to the Civil War, was never taken up again, and in Portugal the Primeira Liga (Experimental) was created in 1934/35, which would be hold until the 1937/38 season, after which the government decided to cancel the competition. Due to these actions, football/soccer stayed at amateur level for many years.

Things changed in the mid 70's: in 1974 the Revolução dos Cravos (Carnation Revolution) took place in Portugal, ending with the Estado Novo (New State), approving a democratic constitution in 1976. And in Spain Franco died in 1975, giving way to a democratic state.

After both countries overcame the dictatorships, they decided to join forces and created a joint league, in order to help the clubs grow and become strong enough to be able to compete in European competitions.

That's how the Liga Ibérica de Fútbol/Futebol (L.I.F.) was born. The Spanish and Portuguese agreed to create a league composed of 22 teams (12 from Spain and 10 from Portugal) and each team would play 42 matches per season.

The LIF is still hold nowadays, and among its clubs there are some of the best teams and players in the World. This is the league current logo:

  • Bilbao: Sociedad Deportiva Bilbao
  • Vigo: Racing de Vigo

RACING CLUB DE MADRID

1976

RC de Madrid is one of the founder clubs of the LIF. Given the purchasing power of their owners, they're also one of the all-time top teams and they have never been relegated.

They had their most successful era in the 80's, winning 5 of the 10 league championships then. Despite they are going thorugh drought years, they're still one of the most popular teams in the league, with fans not only in Madrid, but in all Spain and even in Portugal.

CHAMPIONSHIPS: 10 (1977/78, 1981/82, 1982/83, 1984/85, 1987/88, 1988/89, 1992/93, 1995/96, 2000/01, 2005/06).

The club took its name and colours from the original RC de Madrid, founded in 1914 and disolved in 1932. The current logo is a simplified version of the original club's crest.

LIF Racing Club de Madrid Logo.png

The club have used various colour combinations, including white shorts and black socks, but they lived their most successful years wearing striped shirt, black shorts and red socks, and (willing to bring the great years back) that's the combination they're currently using.

Nike has been the kits provider for almost 10 seasons, and the Swoosh brand has a really close relation to the club. As well as the sponsor, the Madrid brewery Mahou, which has been the club's iconic sponsor since the 80's.

For the 2016/17 season the club use the Nike's Aeroswift template for their three kits, including a special third kit with iridescent logos which features a special monogram instead of the club's usual crest.

ATLÉTICO CLUBE DE LISBOA

1976

AC de Lisboa is another LIF original club, being founded in 1976. It's also the most successful club from Portugal, and has been relegated only once. Given this, they are the most popular team in Portugal.

They were the first Portuguese club to win the league, and their most successful era were the mid-90's. CHAMPIONSHIPS: 5 (1978/79, 1985/86, 1993/94, 1994/95, 2000/01).

The club's crest is inspired by the design of the coat of arms of Lisboa.

LIF Atletico Clube de Lisboa Logo.png

Their colours are also taken from the city coat of arms, having used Gold/Black stripes since the start, and the away kit has always been black.

Kappa is the new kit provider for the 2016/17 season, giving the club traditional home and away kits, and a Green/White/Black third kit, inspired by the waves from the coat of arms.

After using various national companies as sponsor, the club started being sponsored by Etihad in the 2012/13 season.

DYNAMO BARCELONA

1976

During the Spanish Second Republic and later with the Civil War, Barcelona became the nerve centre of the Communist and the Anarcho-Syndicalist movements (with the POUM and the CNT, respectively). After the end of the war, with the victory of the Nationalists, some of those people from these movements who survived got exiled to the USSR.

After the II WW, some of those Spaniards who settled down in Moscow, decided to found a football/soccer club called "Dynamo Popular" (динáмо Популярный in Russian), playing for almost 30 years in the Russian lower divisions, creating a very important youngster academy.

With the end of the Dictatorship, the exiled and their families came back to Barcelona in 1976, founding the Dynamo Barcelona. Given the young talents they managed to develop, the club became the very first champion of the LIF, in the 1976/77 season. After going through many irregular seasons, the club returned to the path of the victory from 2007 to 2011, becoming the 3rd most successful team in the league. CHAMPIONSHIPS: (1976/77, 1986/87, 1999/00, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2010/11). Dynamo represents the hard work and the humility, versus the UE Catalana, which since the beginning has been the club of the upper class.

The club's crest is a stylized D, inspired by the logos of some Russian clubs.

LIF Dynamo Barcelona Logo.png

The club's colours (White/Black/red) symbolize the ideology of its founders, and have a very important meaning to their fans.

Umbro became the kit provider in 2014/15, after having used Joma for almost 15 seasons. For the 2016/17, the Double Diamond brand gave Dynamo two retro-inspired kits: the home is all-white with red logos and contrasting black socks, while the away is all-black with white logos and hooped red and black socks.

The statutes of the club state that there won't by any kind of sponsor on the kit, as well as the feature of a red star above the crest, which symbolizes the Soviet Cup (Кубок СССР) championship achieved in 1955.

As a Real Murcia fan, I thank you for including my team... Looking forward to see it! Aúpa Real Murcia! :)

First of all, glad to see more Spanish people on the boards! Secondly, I would like to make all the clubs up (inventing the names, logos, colours, etc.), but I didn't remember the actual Real Murcia team. Do you have any name ideas/suggestions for the invented club?

I'm terrible at creating names from scratch. But, as a homage, you could use Recreativo de Murcia, or Recreativo Levante... Apparently, the team that originated into Real Murcia was founded as R. Levante de Murcia. It's still unknown what that "R" means, but it could be Recreativo, or maybe they put the "R" while waiting to get the title of Real.

In conclusion, I would go with Recreativo, and for the colors I would use a green jersey and black pants... Maybe white/red/navy as additional colors. Something like the first uniform here:

Recreativo de Murcia sounds fine to me :) As for the kit, I will use Green/Black. Maybe a blue-ish green or teal, in order to make something different.

Thank you for helping me!

1990

Sandeman is one of most important brand of Porto wines founded in 1790. Coinciding with its 200th anniversary, the brand decided to create a football/soccer club named SD Portuense. Due to the investment made by the wine company, the club did not take long to ascend the first division.

Despite the club have never won a league championship, they are pretty popular in Porto, with a fanbase similar to their rival team's: AA de Porto. CHAMPIONSHIPS: 0.

Since 1990 the club's crest has been a P made by a S and a D in a circle base.

Given the club was founded and is owned by a wine maker brand, their main colour is the Burgundy. Hummel has been the kit provider since 2010, and their sponsor has always been Sandeman. The 2016/17 kits feature tradtional designs, usign the same combination that has been used for 5 seasons: Burgundy/White/Black for the home kit, and White/Burgundy/White for the away kit.

The main colour of the club is blue, using yellow and red for the away kits. Adidas has been the kit provider since 1996/97. For the 2016/17 season, the home kit is inspired by the 1996/97 home kit, the away kit is inspired by the design used in the 1988/89 season, in which the club, despite still being amateur, won the Copa Regional de Valencia (Valencia Regional Cup), and the third kit is all-black with silver details and a subtle abstract pattern. All the kits are very solid and the logos look great too. The logo on third for Valencia looks a bit bland without the stripes but it still looks awesome.

Thank you! For the Valencia third kit I decided to do what Adidas usually does with some clubs, using a two-colours crest ;)

FC VITÓRIA DE BRAGA

1996

For the 1996/97 season, the LIF carried out a expansion, coinciding with its 20th anniversary. One of the two teams which became part of the league that season was FC Vitória de Braga.

The club has kept a low profile since then, but over the years they have achieved better results than their neighbours: Grupo Desportivo de Braga. CHAMPIONSHIPS: 0

The club crest have always consisted on a "V" inside of a circle, changing the style of the designing through the years.

The club colours are navy and white, and since the 00's some designs have featured royal blue designs. For the 2016/17 season the club will be using a new brand and a new sponsor: New Balance and Tesla. The American brand has designed two modern kits for the club, playing around with the "V" from the crest.

But in 2005 the club was acquired by investor group. Despite the club have not won any national championship sonce the 80's, thanks to the investment made by the new directive, the team have achieved some European titles. CHAMPIONSHIPS: 2 (1980/81, 1983/84).

MADEIRA CLUBE DE FUTEBOL

1976

Madeira CF was founded in 1976, but given their low budget and squad quality, the started in the 2nd division.

Through the years the club has been alternating categories, and they even have come to play the 3rd division. Things changed in the 2009/10 division: the club was doing fine, standing among the 6 first teams, but then a series of huge floods and mudslides affected the Island of Madeira. To help overcome this situation, Cristiano Ronaldo (born and raised in Funchal, Madeira) donated part of his wealth, not only to the club, but also to the people of the island. Also, he asked Real Madrid to get on loan to Madeira CF, in order to help the club of his native town. Thanks to this, Madeira CF achieved the championship that season, and since then, they have stayed as some of the best clubs in the league. CHAMPIONSHIPS: 1 (2009/10).

The club crest is inspired by the Armillary Sphere from the Madeira coat of arms. Thank you very much to @hendocfc for designing the crest.

LIF Madeira Clube de Futebol.png

The club has always used striped blue/yellow home kits with white shorts, while for the away kit the have been alternating between white and red kits. Umbro is the new kit provider for the 2016/17 season: the Double Diamond brand have designed classy yet fresh designs for the home and away kits, using the club traditional style. As for the third kit, the club will be using a special design inspired by the kit used by Desportivo Funchal, the very first club from the island, founded back in 1916. The club will remain sponsor-less for this season.
