Are we really going to have another Oklahoma City situation?

I'd say that's my biggest concern about this news that USL and NASL are both looking at San Diego. And by the looks of it, there are two different, arguably competing, groups so it does have the smell of OKC.

The only thing that might keep it from being that is geographically where they put the teams in "San Diego". The USL ownership member mentioned, Honda, has some tenuous/circumstantial ties to an existing group, the North County Battalion (formerly of NPSL who've just jumped to USL PDL and merged with a very successful youth academy the San Diego Surf). And the Battalion/Surf group have intimated separately they're going to be making a push for a Pro team soon. If they're bringing a USL D2 team to San Diego it stands to reason that they'd put the team somewhere they have a presence, and both the NC Battalion and the San Diego Surf they merged with are a Del Mar and points north operation, ie: North County. The Surf having their largest academy presence in Oceanside, CA, where conceivably a small USL sized stadium could be built.

If that's the case and the USL group is tied to the Battalion/Surf and do intend to put the USL team in North County that would leave a place for the NASL team if it gets off the ground, to work themselves into central San Diego and the South Bay. Word is the NASL group is not as solid as the USL group but time will tell. However for the NASL group that does bring up the issue of San Diego's budding MLS aspirations, and the fact an MLS team would almost assuredly be placed somewhere central (and thus almost assuredly being a death knell for any centrally located NASL side).

Just wanted to clarify. I don't think anyone has a problem with random people that have nothing to do with the actions of their governments buying and owning teams. It would be like getting mad at Americans for owning and buying teams because of the actions of the US government.

True. But in this case one club is owned by a member of a ruling family (and therefore a government official), and one is owned by the official investment group of a (different) government.

Let me guess - characterizing Johan Cruyff as "a great player for Barcelona"?  That bothered me, too - how could the Commissioner have forgotten?

Nope.

It was his line about the lack of reports of player indiscretion helps in  talking to governors about public funding for stadiums.

Don must've been gotten the St. Louis news before entering the studio.

Beckham should probably :censored: or get off the pot.

Do you get the feeling that David Beckham took a meeting and did a press conference a few years ago about MLS Miami, and then promptly forgot about it? Whereas MLS, who latched on to Beckham a decade ago (rightfully!) and would happily do so again can't let it go?

Like, Becks is hanging out with Post, gets frantic texts from Don Garber, barely musters a "who dis?" and goes back to eating bald eagle eggs and drinking baby blood or whatever it is the ultrarich do.

He's actually been trying to get something done in Miami for a while but his group hasn't been able to make much headway.

Now that the Raiders are probably going to be moving to Vegas do you think Beckham makes Las Vegas his number 1 target for a new team? David Beckham has publicly backed the Raiders new stadium in the past.

As of today, Adelson is still part of the stadium project and while there is no stadium authority board seated and no lease signed, any MLS team would be the third tennant after the Raiders and UNLV.

UNLV has been given the number of $250K/game in rent.

Everything may change if the NFL parts ways with Adelson and use that dreaded company which basically runs the world...Goldman Sachs.

From everything I'm hearing, San Diego losing the Chargers basically bumps them to the top of the list for expansion if they want an MLS team, and Vegas may have just shoved themselves through as well.

Basically, the feeling is that Sacramento's chances of ever actually getting an MLS bid just got taken behind the woodshed.

Seriously, :censored: the Chargers and Raiders.

Sacramento has to get to MLS eventually since they're doing everything right.
