Here's a topic worthy of another thread. Since so many people here were anti-Pats, do many of you root against any other dynasties? Did you root against the Bulls, Yankees, Devils, Giants, Blackhawks, Cardinals?

The only dynasty of any kind I've ever liked in my lifetime (since '92) are the Spurs, and I say this fully understanding they may be an odd exception. Loved Duncan, loved Robinson, love Leonard, and I just find nothing in that team worth rooting against. Just good, likeable guys that are insanely good at basketball.

Otherwise, I've strongly disliked the others either because I couldn't stand particular figures on the team (some tend to get annoyingly big heads) or the repetitiveness of it all just flat out bores me. The latter is the biggest one for me.

Parity excites me as a sports fan in the same way new episodes of a really good show do, and dynasties tend to bore me in the same way too many reruns do. I find sports in general a whole lot more enjoyable when it's "so and so has won their first championship" or "so and so has won their first championship in 20 years" than "for the fifth time in the Brady era, the Patriots are world champions". I don't deny that these dynasties and the players/coaches who lead them are great; some of them all-time greats. But for me, even the greatest shows or movies get pretty stale if I watch them too many times over; force me to watch even a really great Seinfeld episode five times in a row, and by the halfway point of the third go-around, I want out.

Dynasties are just no different to me. The Patriots just bore me, and they also have the added effect of all the "gates" leaving a really bad taste in my mouth. And now it seems you need a miracle, a sacrifice on the altar of a firstborn lamb, and the appearance of Hailey's Comet for them to go away at this point and this rerun is never going to end.

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED that Atlanta committing all those dumbass penalties and extending drives might have been a critical factor in the Patriots getting to run that many plays and spending that much time in possession of the ball?

THANKS for your contribution. No, I don't understand the intracacies of American football, so naturally I'm clueless on how they impacted the outcome. Appreciate the reminder we lost. I'll just keep riding my high off the 95 Braves. Larger point still stands and we have some classless individuals in this thread.

No kidding.  Come on people. You can't fight the Borg.

The Falcons did their best. Then the Pats broke all of their ankles and broke America's heart. Leave Atlanta alone.

That freaking Edelman catch is gonna haunt me forever.

OF COURSE he makes that catch. Because everything seemed aligned for the Patriots.

New England fans got their cake and ate it too.

They got the biggest comeback. Drive for Five for Brady/Belichick. Revenge on Goodell.

At this point, it's not even funy anymore.

For the rest of the 31 NFL teams, it's basically 'Why bother?'

New England's gonna win next year unless god forbid Brady walks out on top because this is something that can't be topped.

They are great, but my god it's so annoying for the rest of us.

And as I say- I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT ALLEGED CHEATING.

Remember, I posted a top 10 list of reason I can't stand the Patriots and cheating didn't crack my list.

That's why I see them as the most annoyingly great dynasty in sports history.

I feel like I may not want to watch another football game for a long, long time.

Not the worst SB ever, but the most painful SB ever for me.

Until Brady and Belichick retire, the AFC might as well stand for All Foxboro Conference.

Meh. Patriots win again (albeit in entertaining fashion), the Niners made an ill-advised coaching hire, and we all get in a little slap-fight. Don't be dicks, guys.

The way you've been so intense during your posts today has again made me question your mental health. I'm being serious, you should at least get a small consultation from a mental health professional, and maybe find a hobby that gets you less riled up. It's not good for your brain to have a hobby that apparently always makes you miserable and leads you to spout rambling ire at people who've largely learned to either ignore or mock you.

Exactly. Taking dumps on Falcons fans doesn't make it any better. A few here need to wipe and get off the John.

This is the kind of team I hope comes back in a year or two and wins it. Especially for Matt Ryan. It's getting forgotten amidst all the hoopla that he had a pretty fine game himself. Making what he did out of the limited snaps he had to deal with was pretty phenomenal, and not one single turnover either. I applaud him.

Hang in there Falcons fans, y'all had a fantastic year. Such a fun team to watch.

I feel bad for Matt Ryan in all of this since this loss will probably define his career more than anybody else associated with the team and I don't think this fell on him.  I don't know, maybe he could've gotten rid of the ball on some of those sacks or put his team into better plays but really, if they make some obvious playcalls, they probably win that game.  If they just follow up the Julio Jones catch with three runs and a very make-able FG attempt we're probably talking about how the Patriots came up just short.

Give me 12 months of the NHL over this crap.

At least in the NHL, the hot goalie factor means anything can happen.

For all we know, the Cup FInal could be anything from Chicago/Pittsburgh to Minnesota/Columbus.

The NHL- where parity mostly exists by comparison to the NFL and repeats are nigh impossible.

Can they?

No. As a franchise, this one is going to 'more than sting'. Whatever push they'll have going into their new stadium next year, is going to be tempered by that loss. I mean, how can you even proudly proclaim "defending NFC Champions", hang a banner, etc, when THAT is how your season ended? A 31-point (3-1?) assault. Previously largest comeback in SB history was 10 points, you lost after being up 25. First OT game? Surely noteworthy as well? You didn't even get the ball AND had a pass interference setup the ball at the 2 for the winning run AFTER you weakly deflect the other pass on the previous play.

The fans are going to be down. The team is going to be down. I can't imagine that we won't see some sort of reorgnization/hand-wringing over this. 2003, Browns (only playoff appearance) played at Pittsburgh. Had a big lead. Even if we weren't looking at SB aspirations, we were expecting the next season to build on it. Then, we let the Steelers come back, and the team, in a completely reactionary stance, canned some of those 'responsible', and the team nose-dived and Butch Davis didn't last much longer after that, either. And it's been all downhill since.

The Falcons are just going to have to grin and bear it. They can't really pride themselves on making that game. Nobody's going to be wearing "Super Bowl" or "NFC Championship" shirts or hats next year. They're going to have to not try to 'blow up' the staff that screwed it up.

All I'm going to say is that I kind of want to put a hit out on whichever Ram GM (or coach) refused to pay Amendola*.  The outcome sucked, can Brady retire so the NFL becomes slightly more worth watching?  This was literally the only game I watched this year that didn't feature the Rams, and barring Brady's retirement I don't see that changing next season.

I'm gonna lay out the truth.

If you ever met me in person, I am anything but someone with questionable mental health. If you ever met me in person, I'm actually a lot more rational and cool-headed face-to-face.

But sometimes, I tend to post/write what I really feel .And that is I can't stand the Patriots and their seemingly never-ending success.

But sports really have a tendency to swing and mix my emotions.

This game hurt because I am a diehard Buffalo Bills fan who has always considered New England a blood rival. Twice a year, every year- getting ran over by the Almighty Brady.

Add to that tonight- ATL's great first 3 quarters, the Patriots looking so slow and seemingly no answers for the fast Falcons. And then came that 4th quarter.

I mean, seeing New England win ANOTHER Super Bowl whereas there are a lot of NFL teams that have only sniffed a few SB appearances... it frustrated me.

The NFL is supposed to be about parity.

While you could argue for NFC Parity, it seems like the Patriots are proving that maybe there is no pairty for this dynasty that STILL keeps chugging along.

McCarthy1 was right. It's almost no fun anymore at times with the NFL.
