Patriots offered 32nd overall pick to Saints for Brandin Cooks, but Saints want a mid-first round pick.

Just from unsubstantiated local rumors, the Eagles could offer #14 overall and then a swap later on (something like swap their 2nd for Saints 2nd so as to move up in the second round and soften the blow of losing the 1st round pick.)

It'd be pretty silly for Phila to be awarded the draft despite the Eagles not having a pick, then they go out and get the pick, then go and get rid of it.  For a guy I've never seen or heard of (obviously says more about how closely I follow the NFL than his play.)

Well, even if there is more corporal punishment, that doesn't excuse the enormity of what Peterson did by any means. But upon further consideration, it's not unthinkable that a behavior could go on for generations and generations. The Scots-Irish in Appalachia have been continuing a clan-based honor culture since before they even got here. Hell, the whole collective American neurosis can be traced back to the norms of its founding populations if you do the legwork. But the argument was never about excusing Peterson's behavior so much as providing possible context. It's kind of like when Vick went to prison for running dogfights and there was some shrugging if off like "well, blacks in the south have dogfights, it happens."

I don't think you'll go broke betting that black guys in the South can trace their roots to slavery rather than willingly emigrating from Nigeria or whatever.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Last March, the Saints traded WR Kenny Stills to Miami for LB Dannell Ellerbee and a 3rd to avoid paying his 4th year option.

Now for Cooks, since he was a 1st rounder, they've got until May 2 to pick up his fifth year option. They clearly don't want to do that with another WR and is telling about the Brees/Loomis/Peyton future.

Eagles should just sign a true FA receiver.

According to Ian Rapoport (admittedly not the most reliable of sources), the Pats offered a pick swap of some sort in exchange for Cooks, not just a straight up pick.

Cutler will be traded for a 5th to, say, Houston.  Maybe a 6th. Or cut.  In that order.

They'll try to trade down from 3 on draft day, a deal will fall apart to trade down, they panic trying to trade with New England for JG, but it too collapses.  In a panic they use the 3rd overall pick on Jamal Adams.  They try and fail to trade back up into the middle 1st to take Mahomes.  Watson is still on the board as we go into round two, but the Vikings trade up ahead of them to take Watson.  The cuckolded Bears reluctantly take a cornerback in round two.

Round 3 comes and the best QB available is Natan Peterman.  The Bears trade down to stack picks.

Fast forward to round 5.  The Bears take Joshua Dobbs in a major reach and pathetically phone up the Bengals hoping they'll take a bunch of 2018 stuff for McCarron, as the Patriots have already traded JG to the Browns by this point.

The Bengals say no.  The Bears, now without the option of Hoyer, go into the preseason with a QB depth chart of Connor Shaw, Matt Barkley, and Joshua Dobbs.

They finish the season 4-12; the coaching staff is fired.  Ryan Pace is kept on.  The team hires some guy who is just another hire.

Fast forward to 2023.  The Bears haven't had a winning season since Lovie Smith.  The team is moved to Toronto and the fat, stupid fans of Chicago all bemoan that they have become the new Browns, but are slightly happy in that the McCaskeys can no longer ruin their lives.  Virginia McCaskey is now 100 years old.

The year is now 2030.  The NFL, by now in a bit of bind, observes Tom Brady winning his 18th Super Bowl.  The Bears are awarded an expansion franchise and the new owner will be - oh dammit - Jerry Reinsdorf, now 94 years old.  The team hires Kenny Williams to be their GM, and appoints a graying Mike Singletary head coach.  The team uses their 1st overall pick to draft Shemp Buckforth, considered by many the greatest QB prospect to ever graced the earth.  He dazzles in his media tours and puts on a showcase in camp.  The Bears have finally found their quarterback.

Shemp Buckforth is killed in a drunk driving accident with Chance The Rapper two days before the first preseason contest against the Manchester Monarchs (formerly Jaguars).  The Bears then resume going ~.500 for another 50 years before a meteor destroys the planet.

Oh come on, that is patently ridiculous. Talk about complete and total nonsensical drivel.

Like Houston really gives up a 5th for Cutler. As if.

Tyrod Taylor is staying with the Bills. Good. He's a good QB and now that they have a real NFL coach he might be really good.

The money sounds crazy, but that's just what you have to pay a guy if you think he's an NFL starter. I have a hard time believing they would have done better elsewhere, so I'm optimistic about this.

Dwayne Allen to Pats.

Looks like Jack Doyle will be the Colts staring TE in 2017. I wish Allen could had stayed, him and Doyle could had been a powerhouse combo.

Only if Luck us able to remain upright.

Plus, 2 TE personnel for the Colts is likely best so that Frank Gore can get his 3.8 yards per carry.

Kenny Stills is staying put in Miami (4 years; 32 million). I think that's a lot for someone that drops so many passes in crucial situations, but whatever. Parker has so far been a disappointment and we don't have any other WRs on the team that are reliable enough, outside of Landry.

I'm really gonna miss Tony Romo. I get it, but he was my favorite current Cowboy and it's a little sad to see him go. He was tough, and was class personified. Wish things went differently for him and the team as far as playoffs go, but he made this team worth watching.

It does suck. I knew this was coming, but this has hit me harder than I had originally anticipated. He's my all-time favorite Cowboy player. I'm just young enough to only remember the twilight of 90's trio; I don't have many memories from that era. Due to that, my main childhood Cowboys memories are of the Dave Campo/Bill Parcells years. You know, the time when Quincy Carter, Vinny Testaverde and Bledsoe were the best QB's on the Cowboys. I remember watching Tony's first real game action in the second half against the Giants in 2006, and excitedly telling my dad, even though he was right there watching with me, "I think we finally have a QB! He looks like the real deal." It's really disappointing that the Cowboys couldn't build a team around Tony until it was too late because his body began to fail him.

I hope that in the event that the Cowboys do not win the Super Bowl next year, whatever team Tony plays for does. He deserves it.

Cowboys - Lakers - LAFC - USMNT - LA Rams - LA Kings - NUFC

I know that Tony Romo had good numbers, but he never won anything. And with a franchise like the Cowboys, it seems like that would be a prerequisite for the near universal love he gets from the fanbase. I've never understood the softspot Cowboys fans had for him; at least guys like Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Drew Bledsoe and other white stiffs won a conference championship.

What did Romo ever do?

Just a little ghost fella peeking out from behind a wall.

I don't see why their being white is germane. I mean, I do, I just don't think it accomplishes much. Kelly and Marino achieved a great deal in the league and I can't buy them as overrated for being white. (Bledsoe, I'll leave the door open.) I wouldn't talk about a Hall of Famer like he's Kyle Orton.
