It's a brief stop on the way to this becoming a NY/NJ MetroStars thread.

Yeah, and there wasn't any trash piled up on the curbs, either. Very inauthentic.

Or urine.

They filled the extra space between rink and stands with bizarre "New Yorkish" set dressing.

That could be about the dumbest thing I've ever seen.  Checker cabs are a tourist's impression of New York.  A tourist who hasn't yet been to the city.

Of course it doesn't really look like New York City... it's a Buffalo home game!

How did we go from NHL uniform design to taxi cab design?

That transparent fiction really ought to be challenged in court.  Time for the Dolans to start paying their fair share.

What the actual f is going on here?

"MetroStars" was an embarassing name.  Not only was it a corporate plug, for owners Metromedia, but it had an internal capital letter, as in the name of a kiddie team.   The name was minor-league all the way; and it, along with other cringe-worthy names such as "Clash" and "Burn", helped define early MLS as a bad joke.

While all MLS uniforms were a disaster in the first year or two, the MetroStars soon adopted a nice-looking set with red and black stripes.  But, oh, that awful name.  And when you combined it with the awkward hybrid part-city part-state location name "New York / New Jersey", you got a hideous mouthful that will forever stand unrivalled for sheer gruesomeness in the annals of sporting nomenclature.

Of course, after the team was sold, it somehow managed to adopt a name that was an even more appallingly blatant corporate plug.  But by then MLS had begun to come to its senses. The "Clash" and the "Burn" were gone; and the league had started to feature sensible names such as FC Dallas, Toronto FC, and Seattle Sounders.  It would take the creation of NYCFC to finally expunge the stink of early MLS; and a good portion of that stink came from the dreadful name "MetroStars".

Defending the name "MetroStars" is only slightly less absurd than defending the act of hitting oneself on the head with a hammer, or the act of putting pineapple on pizza.  Please stop at once.

I'd argue that caramelized pineapple in julienned strips might be a good pizza topping, but raw chunks are a nasty mishmash of texture and prevents proper folding.

Also, MetroStars was a terrible name. Good red/black kits towards the end, but a stereotypical "x-treme" '90s name.

They had great kits towards the end.  Awful wordmark aside, this is an amazing look.

Might have been even better with the red socks.

Connor McDavid and the Pacific Division will be wearing the white jersey that has already been posted, but here's a reminder.

Alex Ovechkin is the captain for the Metro and it will be a grey jersey.

It's like they went out of their way to make them as ugly as possible.

Central > Pacific > Atlantic > Metro

That highlighter yellow on the Eastern jerseys is butt.
