2017 MLB Season

Odds that Dodgers outdo the 2011 Red Sox for most spectacular September collapse?

Regardless, I think it's safe to say D-Backs have established themselves as the NL's "dark horse" playoff team.

CC Sabathia is upset the Red Sox tried bunting against him because he has a boo-boo on his knee. What a joke. If you don't want teams bunting against you, don't be a fat-ass who can't field his position. What's next, Aaron Judge crying because pitchers won't stop throwing him high fastballs and breaking balls in the dirt that he can't hit?

I have to agree - and I'm a Yankee fan who actually owns a CC Sabathia jersey, and I'm generally a huge fan of his. But bunting is fair game - if Nunez felt he could exploit a weakness in his opponent by bunting, more power to him for doing so. I'd do the same if I were a no-power, high-contact guy facing a pitcher with recurring knee problems. It's on the Yankees to better devise a strategy to field bunts against CC.

FWIW, I think CC kind of realizes that Nunez did nothing wrong, and that it's just a strange pet peeve of his. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/251848548/eduardo-nunez-cc-sabathia-at-odds-on-bunts/

On Friday, Sabathia provided more thoughts on how much he dislikes the bunt in general.

"It's not that it's out of bounds, I guess," Sabathia said. "That's just me. It doesn't matter who's bunting or who I'm playing. I get [mad] when people bunt, period. You're going to get a reaction out of me. Everybody knows that. And they got the reaction.

"We could be playing a Little League game. My son bunts on me, I'm going to cuss him out. That's just me. So it is what it is. I've always been like that. This is nothing new, and I think a lot of people know that."

No one likes when an opponent successfully exploits one of your weaknesses, but if it's within the rules (which this is, of course), more power to them if they can successfully do so.

I was driving to work and thinking about this - Only the Mariners, Nationals Expos, Pirates, Brewers, and Orioles have longer World Series appearance droughts than the Dodgers.

They moved to LA in 1958 and made the World Series 9 times in their first 31 seasons, but none since 88.

I was born in 1967.  The Orioles and Dodgers were World Series regulars when I was growing up.  I missed 1966 (for both teams) by about 10 months, then the Orioles were in 5 before I turned 17.

I remember watching Game Six of the ALCS in 2004 and wondering why in God's name the Yankees weren't bunting against Curt Schilling and his one good leg.

Who knew that babying minor injuries, forcing has-beens into the lineup coming off of prolonged injuries, screwing with starting pitchers' routines, trotting out arsonists in high leverage situations, and treating September like Spring Training could lead to a team suddenly wetting the bed?  I'm shocked! SHOCKED!

Seager's back tomorrow.  So, minus the occasional day off, please, for the love of all that is holy, stop screwing with things and stick with this:

8 Taylor

6 Seagar

5 Turner

3 Bellinger

2 Grandal/Barnes

4 Forsythe/Utley

7 Granderson/Hernandez/Pederson

9 Puig

1 Kershaw/Darvish/Wood/Hill/Maeda/Ryu (#5 starter dependent on if Avilan, Cingrani or Watson establish themselves or if Ryu needs to step in)

Baez needs to be locked in his hotel room.  Morrow should set up Kenley.  Stripling/potentially Buehler also can eat some innings.

A-Gon's back is done and Ethier's a has been.  They need to be kept as far away from a bat as possible.

It's time for the Indians to cool off just in time for the Orioles to travel to Cleveland, right?  Right?

The Indians streak is getting the same treatment from knuckleheads that the Blue Jackets' 16 game win streak got - "They're peaking too soon!" and my favorite, "yeah, but they played bad teams"

Remains to be seen about peaking too soon, but what's the alternative, lose a couple games on purpose so you're not "peaking too soon"? Francona's not gonna be like "Hey boys we're going to drop this one today. Don't want to peak too soon." That's stupid. It's really dumb that the win streak for the Jackets would've been seen as more "true" if it had just been a 14-2 or 15-1 stretch instead of 16 straight, but that's how dilberts like Ryan Lambert think.

Second one, the argument that it's an invalid streak because of who they beat, is patently absurd. You know why? Go find all the other times a team played a stretch of 15 games against poor competition in a parity filled league in a sport based mostly on randomness and tell me how often even the best teams win every single one of those 15 games.

Yeah, really. It's baseball. You never know what's going to happen on a given day. That's what makes it interesting.

It's very impressive what Cleveland is doing, and as the defending American League champion with its pitching staff back in place (which it wasn't when they went to the World Series), they look very hard to pick against.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

It feels like the Indians 15 game win streak is really overshadowing the Diamondback's own 13 win streak. They deserve a lot of credit too, Yet everyone seems focused on Cleveland.

It will be interesting at least, to see which team can keep theirs going the longest. My gut tells me the Orioles will steal one against Cleveland.

You know what's gonna help the Dodgers bust out of their current slump? Their upcoming series vs the God AWFUL Giants in San Francisco early next week.

Haha OF COURSE this was the one Giants game I picked to go to this season.

Also, I still think this is just a rough patch for the Dodgers and that they'll eventually pull out of this and win the World Series, but, DAMN. When it rains, it pours. No pun intended
