That was years ago. Back when they were deciding what to do with Tampa Bay and Arizona joining.

I believe the AL was going to be the East, and NL was the west. (source: http://www.nytimes.com/1997/11/06/sports/baseball-brewers-cleared-to-shift-to-nl-central-in-98.html )

That article was the first time I ever heard of the D-Rays were originally going to be in the AL West!

But it appears to be true: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1997-01-18/sports/9701180170_1_trading-interleague-opponents-tampa-bay-new-york-area-teams

That would have been interesting. NFL levels of geographical weirdness.

Well, both the NFL and MLB had a tough time figuring out the Atlanta market. Both were in the west. And it seems Tampa Bay also had issues with geography. Being on the west side of Florida and all.

The thing I hate most about even knowing they were considering that, is that they so badly wanted to screw over a new team rather than just realign in any sort of logical manner. Just as the NFL had done many times, and even the 2002 reset still had oddities such as Miami/Tampa Bay/Jacksonville being in three different divisions, Dallas in the East (I know why, we all know why), but... geez. Tampa Bay Devils Rays in the AL West would have been some horrible road trips for them. No player in their right mind would sign up for that.

I'm not so sure about that.

Many, including myself, are of the belief that it's tougher to go west-to-east than it is east-to-west.  An AL West Rays team would get to have Seattle, Oakland, Angels, etc. speed up their body clocks by three hours in less than two days, as well as these teams likely being on lengthy east coast trips. So many athletes today are all about staying in a routine, and those routines usually revolve around a 7pm local time start to a game.  Moving that routine up three hours in less than 48 hours isn't easy. That would become an advantage for the Rays.

Dan duquette doesn't want to trade away the Orioles' big league talent bc he thinks this team still has a chance to make the playoffs.

LUL

Seriously? These O's are going one place and one place only with this starting rotation and farm system - nowhere. Did he even see the haul that the Yankees got last year for Chapman and Miller? Imagine what we could get for Britton and O'Day! It'd be less than the Yankees duo, sure, but it would likely give us prospects and some major league arms.

If he "stands pat" at the deadline, no matter if the orioles make the playoffs or not (they won't) he needs to be fired. Not trading Britton last offseason was a mistake, not trading him now is an even bigger one.

TL;DR Dan duquette is an idiot and the Orioles should be hard sellers at the deadline.

Last night in Todd Frazier's first at-bat as a Yankee in Yankee Stadium which was also his first at-bat ever against his former Reds teammates he hit into a triple play. HAHAHA

In the Anything Can Happen In A Baseball Game department a run scored on the play. The Reds managed to record a triple play and still gave up a run!

Red Sox just traded for Eduardo Núñez.

Because the last Giants 3rd baseman they signed worked out so well.

This is a day after calling up top prospect 3rd baseman Rafael Devers. If Devers goes off à la Cody Bellinger or Gary Sanchez, then the Red Sox just acquired a mildly useful utility bat. Dumb.

There's only ONE result that should let Duquette keep his job, of her doesn't well.

World Series win.

You don't sell, and fall short of a WS win and he needs to be gone.

Those :censored: in' Angels. Albert Pujols breaks an 0-for-24 skid with two homers, then the Angels allow 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th including the second walk-off grand slam given up by Bud Norris this week.

A former Orioles pitcher, eh? That makes sense.

Has ANYTHING gone right for the SF Giants since the 2016 All-Star Game?

I mended your post, and no, little has gone right (save for Posey's semi-resurgence this year).

The team has fallen behind as an organization (scouting, development, coaching, etc.) and has just had a lot of crummy cards dealt their way.

Up by 8 games over LA without Kershaw for an extended time, I thought no way we blow this, but we did. The bullpen was hot garbage and going 2-8 vs SD in the 2nd half was killer. Yeah this organization is just in a funk now. I just wish we can pour gasoline and light this season on fire.

So, I hate to say this, but the Dodgers are winning the God damn World Series this season. They've basically been Corvettes racing a bunch of Neons in terms of payroll anyway, but they're FINALLY looking like a cohesive unit and have drafted like the MFin 90s Yankees. I hate this stupid team and even I find myself impressed by just how good they are and actually kinda wanna watch them play.

The Dodgers around 2012 were a total ass joke because they thought they could strong arm their way to titles using nothing but sweet sweet cash. But, unlike a bunch of other idiot teams with money, they've learned their lesson and have built one of the very best top-to-bottom systems I've ever seen. I'm about as big of a certified Dodgers hater there is, but even I have to say if they win the World Series this year (which they will), they'll have earned it.

This is like DG's "A good Lakers team makes the whole NBA better" idea. I think that a "Good" Dodgers team probably really does make the whole league better off (PUKE).

Sigh, I saw this coming from a mile away, but, who didn't?
