NFL helmet logo swap/mash-up

Welcome to my little thought experiment.

This idea has been used on this forum before. It is the swapping of logos/history of NFL teams.

For this project, I limited myself to a few guidelines.

1. The starting point is 1960. As I saw this as the first year as a whole that logos really began appearing on helmets.

2. I would limit myself to just helmets.

3. When matching up colors between teams, darker colors should substitute for darker colors, brighter for brighter, etc.

4. Black, grey, or silver can be used to outline a logo even if it's not part of the team colors (the KC rule).

5. Clip art was to be avoided, but if possible I would try to incorporate elements of existing team logos.

6. When swapping logos, try to avoid the same type. For example, the Cardinals is a head logo. So, I shouldn't use the Panthers as their replacement. However, there were a few times when I did have to ignore this guideline.

7. I tried to keep the "new" history somewhat plausible. It is possible that couple of choices are questionable, but I think I can justify them. As part of the history, I switched up the AFL and NFL names. The revised logos are below.

Team colors were taken Colorwerx's website. While I used MG's Helmets and Gridiron Uniforms for guides to things such as logo size and helmet/facemask colors.

As to not to spam the thread, I plan to only post 4 teams a day. They will be presented in alphabetical order.

Please enjoy and any C&C is appreciated. Also if anyone wants the helmet template, I do have it available as a GIMP file (xcf).

ARIZONA CARDINALS [as the Cleveland Browns]
Established: 1946
First season: 1946 (NFC), 1950 (AFL)
League championships: 8
 NFC Championships: 4 - 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949
 AFL Championships: 4 - 1950, 1954, 1955, 1964

As Arizona takes its nickname from the color and not the bird, I thought the Browns was the obvious choice for the switch.

BALTIMORE RAVENS [as the Houston Texans]
Established: 1999
First season: 2002 (AFL)
League championships: 0

My Rams/Ravens mashup was to close to another mashup design. So, the Ravens are here (as it was only other place I get the Ravens to fit). Even though the Ravens use a head logo, I think the secondary logo is different enough.

BUFFALO BILLS [as the Denver Broncos]
Established: 1959
First season: 1960 (NFL IV), 1970 (AFL)
League championships: 3
 Super Bowl championships: 3 - 1997 (XXXII), 1998 (XXXIII), 2015 (50)

For this switch up, I was stuck between the choices of Miami and Buffalo. I ultimately choose Buffalo.

This is a great start. I have one suggestion though. You should be more specific when you're posting your mashups. I can't tell who is with who.

I agree. Took me a moment to figure out the Bills were mashed up with the Broncos. I think you need to make it more clear what the team pairs are.

Enjoying this a lot so far.

I definitely agree. I meant to back and add team names before I posted, but I forgot. I have since gone back and added them.

The first four teams are as follows:

the Arizona Cardinals as the Cleveland Browns,

the Atlanta Falcons as the Philadelphia Eagles,

the Baltimore Ravens as the Houston Texans,

and the Buffalo Bills as the Denver Broncos.

Yeah, with the falcon wings I would maybe flip them vertically and then rotate them about 25° and extend the wing to the front of the helmet.

So, far though, this is a pretty decently series. I love all these team matchup/switches I've seen over the years.

CLEVELAND BROWNS [as the Atlanta Falcons]
Established: 1965
First season: 1966 (AFL)
League championships: 0

I though about using a dog, but as Brownie came first, I went with him. I originally used the "halfback Brownie" for the first logo, but then came across an alternate standing Brownie on a newspaper article about the various (and lack of) Browns logos. I thought that logo brought a better continuity to the helmets.

The logo is suppose to be swiping paw.

I would try doing whiskers instead of the paw.

I think that was the baseball Cardinals, not the football Cardinals, but not entirely sure at the moment.  I'd perhaps, in this sort of thing, swap the Cardinals with some team like the Chargers, for example.  That would change things around here with your helmet swaps, no doubt, but if so, then so be it, if you'd change the already-posted helmets and teams accordingly, of course,  That is all for now, at least.  Turtle Pilgrim out.
