And finally we have the kit lineup charts for today's games:

A bit surprising to see Minnesota go with gray shorts, especially considering they went with the normal whites last week in Colorado. Also surprising is the black shorts for Portland since they never wore them last season despite them being available. The graphic also shows hooped socks for the Timbers, but I'll believe that when I see it because those weren't an option last season. I hope the graphic is correct though because the hooped socks would be a welcome addition to that kit.

Minnesota would be fine wearing grey. Portland would be fine wearing green.

Ehhh navy vs. grey could work, but I think they made the right choice going with the white tops. I think there's much more of an argument to be made for why Minnesota didn't go with gray last week against the burgundy clad Rapids. And with the Timbers, they're one of the clubs in MLS that are pretty random with their kit selections. Unless there's an obvious choice for which kit is necessary in-order to avoid a clash, they rotate fairly frequently between their primary and secondary, even at home.

The Timbers are indeed wearing some new hooped socks today with their secondary kit. Lovely addition IMO, and I don't think they diminish the look of the hooped shirts at all. In fact I'd say the socks greatly enhance the look of the shirts and kits as a whole.

Here's how yesterday's matchups looked in action:

IMG_3217.PNGIMG_3220.JPGIMG_3219.JPG

I thought Minnesota looked pretty good in the gray shorts, and it's certainly a better look than the boring all white. Still not a good kit, but at least a little more visually appealing. And Portland vs. Columbus was a fantastic looking game. I'm incredibly biased as Timbers fan but I honestly believe the new hooped socks for the secondary kit make their kit lineup the best in the league this year.

I would love their kit if the red back was black. Also, I don't see how Minnesota couldn't have gone grey against both the Revs and Colorado - it easily could've worked out.

I think Minny's gray would've been too close to navy. I'm all in favor of maximizing contrast honestly. No problems with them wearing the away, and I agree that gray shorts look pretty nice with that kit.

kinda weird and arbitrary, but cool that Portland updated the socks. Wonder what the story is.

Yeah I'd be curious to know the story behind it as well. I'd say it's an unprecedented move, but SKC actually did the same thing in the middle of last season. They started the season wearing these socks with their secondary kit:

And by mid-season they had updated the socks to these:

Both cases are pretty strange, and I'd be curious to know why both clubs didn't go with the updated socks to begin with. Whatever the case may be, I'd say both clubs ended up upgrading their respective kits by making the change.

Both of those are very odd. Something similar has happened twice with the US in recent memory.

First time, they debuted the new 2010 white kit with the faint gray sash. I guess the new socks weren't ready yet, because they wore the socks from the 2008-2009 kit.

From then on, they wore the normal socks with the swooping blue stripes.

Then with the royal and navy gradient kit, they wore the plain navy socks for months on end, while the women's team wore gradient socks.

And then towards the end of this kit's lifespan, they finally wore the gradient socks. I can't remember how many times, but they weren't used much.

The MLS never did end up posting the kit lineup graphics for tonight's games, but here's how they ended up looking:

I'll keep my eye out to see whether or not they post the graphics for the rest of this weekend's games.

The rest of the kit matchups for this weekend have finally become available (they posted the images as .jpgs so ignore the coloring being off).

No real surprises other than Columbus going with black at home instead of yellow. It's too bad because that matchup would be considerably better if both teams wore their primaries. Other than that today will see the debut of LA's new secondary, but that's really the only other thing of note.

Minnesota vs Real Salt Lake was a gorgeous matchup to see in person. Of course the 4-2 result was pretty exciting as well :)

I thought it was a decent looking game. I'm not too fond of either kit on their own but they at least provided a nice contrast of colors. Speaking of which, here's how it, and the rest of today's games looked:

Columbus/Orlando could have been all-yellow v all-purple; why did both teams wear their clash kits?

Orlando pretty much had to once Columbus decided to wear black. All purple may have been a clashing issue against the Crew's all black.

Yes, but Columbus shouldn't have made that choice in the first place.  You wear your best look at home.

I think Columbus just likes wearing their aways at home - last year, they wore white at home and Orlando wore purple.
