Lol dude, your LeBron-hatred boner is really showing.

It's more "anti-NBA" boner than anything else.  But then again, my mindset is one of "the NBA has long lost the benefit of the doubt when it comes to arranging things to their benefit".

Is it too far-fetched a thought that the NBA has an interest in making LeBron's homecoming as rosy as possible?  I'm pretty sure the NBA has no interest in seeing LeBron saddled with an unhappy star teammate in what many believe is his last season in Cleveland.

Like the NFL hasn't.

The no cap year (2010), Dallas and Washington knew the language anfd were successful, but the other 30 owners got mad they didn't have folks smart enough to know the CBA, or lack there of for the year.

If the NBA was rigging things for LeBron, they'd have found a way to stop Durant from joining the Warriors, stop Kawhi from getting traded to the Spurs, stop the Big Three from forming in Boston, etc.

If you're going to rig something and want to give the impression that everything's legit, you do your best to not give the appearance you're rigging things.  It's like that Game 4 from this past NBA Finals....the Cavs shot a ton of free throws in the first quarter and were able to build a substantial lead, then grant the Warriors some free throws in spots where it won't hurt the Cavs, and work in some fouls so the whole picture gets distorted....sure, the Warriors got more fouls called and shot more free throws, but the dynamics of the game were different once they started getting the calls.

Besides, all the NBA wants is for LeBron to reach the Finals.  Their ratings won't change whether or not his team wins the series.

Yeah they did. They kept everyone, and basically replaced James Michael McAdoo and Ian Clark with Nick Young and Omri Casspi. they're not gonna make a HUGE impact or anything, but that's still a pretty significant upgrade.

Possibly interesting news out of San Diego this morning. The local sports talk station 1090 broke that later this week there's going to be an announcement of a new NBA ready arena going up in San Diego's east village. The privately financed arena on 80 acres of already acquired land will initially house an expansion NLL team (and possibly one or both of the current tenants of San Diego's existing 51 year old public arena the Gulls of the AHL and Sockers of the MASL). But the long term goal by the owner of the arena will be to acquire an NBA team and possibly an NHL team (given San Diego's runaway success in the AHL). Joseph Tsai, founder of Alibaba.com and La Jolla resident is the money and drive behind the project.

Well good to hear that holdout helped the Cavs so much! Celtics just threw in a 2020(!) 2nd round pick to complete the Kyrie Irving deal.

Glad to see all of this dragged out nonsense ended up netting the Cavs such a great additional haul

The Cavs are :censored:ing children.

They got a king's ransom for Kyrie, yet still threw a tantrum, wanting more.

What pathetic, greedy, inept management.

I don't get the snark. Teams have done way better with second-round picks in recent years, whether selecting players (Draymond and IT are the obvious examples) or trading them (see the Lakers this year). And the Cavs secured another asset with little leverage. I think that's pretty good, all things considered.

It seems weird that the results of the physical would lead to additional compensation.

It seems like Thomas is either healthy enough or not...an additional second rounder seems inconsequential.  I'd have thought that any trade "pending physical" would have to either be confirmed or undone.

Right. They held out, and got another asset out of it. I'm not sure why people hate the Cavs for this.

It's more how they did it.

They insulted the integrity Celtics by pretending they weren't forthcoming about IT's injury, which everyone in the league (including the Cavs) were aware of, and threatened to have the deal blow up in both their faces (the deal falling out would have hurt the Cavs as much as the Celtics) all for what amounted to a 2nd round pick 3 years from now.

That's dirty, scummy, underhanded business tactics at it's finest.
